jeff n
last time out riding my friends bike started running funny, then died. he looked and his idle screw came out. he said he was able to get it started but had crazy power and would only run full on or not at all, said it was the scariest ride ever. he made it back to camp and loaded up. after getting home he replaced the screw but now it won't run right and will not idle at all. any thoughts?? jeff n
i wasn't asking how to tell if his cylinder was toast or not, i was asking if running his bike like that could burn it up?

Larry's Shee
Sure it's not code for: "Did I burn up my motor. Just like "Only needs carbs cleaned" OP, in addition to compression test, what was "new' air screw set at?
jeff n
WOW some people are a little sensitive. about the air screw. still a little new here but I believe it to be an idle screw and was told to watch and see when it comes in contact with slide, to go 1 &1/2 turns more so that's what I told him. what he actually did i'm not sure. Larry's Shee
The "air screw" adjusts the fuel/air ratio on the pilot circut. Turn clockwise until lightly seated, turn ccw 1 1/2 for starting point. You have decribed the throttle slide stop screw. BUILDER
There are many many guys on here with lots of years of experience and for some reason all the new guys that are going on here ask questions and dont really want to hear the answer unless it is the answer they think you should give them. Dont ask the fucking question if you are not willing to take the advice. A compression test is needed to know if he hurt the cylinders or not riding it the way he did. Is it possible yes anything is possible!!!!!!!!! NO THAT IS NOT HOW YOU SET THE IDLE SCREW!! Take some advice and ask questions and be willing to listen to the answers you are given and you are going to get a lot more help. You really need to do a COMPRESSION test and a leak down test on the motor to see what is going on with it. If bike revs up and will not idle down either the slides are stuck or you have a serious air leak. If you did have him set the idle screw that way and not the air screw that would also explain why the bike will not idle down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
