Throw away the front brake shields?

So does anyone regret leaving the front brake shields off?  Yeah I know, I can always just put them back on, but the trails I ride are loaded with loose sticks, rocks etc... and can get pretty mucky too. Seems that the brakes and wheels should be just fine without them but just b/c I don't see a real need for 'em doesn't mean I'm not underestimating their purpose.   I don't want to find out 6 miles from home that I shoulda left 'em on.  In case anyone's not sure what part I'm talking about, it's 18/9 in (bottom) this pic...

Of my 'answer', you mean I answered my own question, to didn't read further where it says I don't want to be 6 miles from home and find out my front brakes are gone.

Sounds like I can leave em or from the other responses though.

I've rode my Shee on trails for 8 years now...haven't regretted tossing them once. Useless pretty much lol. Plus if you upgrade to dual piston YFZ450 front calipers, they won't fit anymore anyway...

Sure they do, just takes some good ol' fashioned white folk elbow grease.
