codee.riddick
So I finally got my banshee bacj together after rebuilding the top end with a fresh bore.wiseco piston kit. 66.5mm( .100 over.) First start I pulled choke out after some few kicks. Runs only when choke is halfway out. As soon as I take choke off bike dies out. If I keep on the throttle a little it runs but will pop backfire kinda like a 'cchhh' out of right exhaust pipe. Especially if I try and ride it with choke off. So confused reeds seem fine carbs (aftermarket) are super cclean jets are unclogged. Main jet is a 280 idk the scoop on the pilot jets might be stock for all i know. Has fmf fatty gold series exhaust the left side exhaust seems to be pushing hard andbhas that two stroke 'pop' while th right side has a smooth kinda weak push. Good compression obviously.. oh and the throttle kinda sticks a little sometimes kinda almost wants to keep revving up sorta uncontrollably dunno what that is either. Any ideas? sheerider11
Sounds like an air leak on that side. Better stop riding and do a leak down test
Larry's Shee
Take the carbs apart and clean them. I prefer soaking them in Berrymans carb dip. A quick douche with a spray can might not do the job. There tiny passages in there, make sure you can blow compressed air thru them. Make sure you can see thru main and pilot jet. Be sure to pull main jet emulsion tube for cleaning. Set the float level. Float bowl with "BB" on front goes on LEFT carb, cut away (angle) on slides faces air filter. Don't forget choke cross over tube. LEAKDOWN TEST !! This may prevent your new top end from going BOOM!! Because you just worked on the top end, odds are greater you have a leak, from your "symtoms", than a dirty carb. 7lbs for 7 minutes. Buy a Clymers repair manual, or find the download on here. Buy a box of clues, too
trickedcarbine
^ all that, but make sure it's got at least 27.5 pilots first.
codee.riddick
Jets have no obstructions but how do I know what size pilot jets I have?? And sheerider11 it kinda sounds like there is an air leak but I can't pinpoint it. I've tried spraying carb cleaner over both carbs, both reeds the head and the cylinders doesn't cause engine to rev up at all. Using the air screws doesn't seem to do anything either
codee.riddick
This is the right side of my right carb what is this hole for? Goes into the carb but nothing is attached
sleeper06
Choke tube between both carbs without it symptoms your describing
codee.riddick
I dint think the mikuni carbs had a choke tube. And why does it run to the outside of this carb?
trickedcarbine
Those carbs are disgusting.... No way they were cleaned properly. Actually clean them, not just deuchè the bowls with carb cleaner and call it a day. Then blow out ALL ports with air. Pilot is the itty bitty flat head in front of the main. Size should be on it like the main. It should not be stock in your situation. Air screw should be 1.5-2 turns out. The choke passes through the carb so that it can activate the right side carb as well. Make sure you have the bowls situated correctly for the choke to run/close properly. Also, there should be a piece of rubber tuning from that port to one on the other carb.
codee.riddick
The outside is dirty not the inside. And I was mistaken for a second the hole is on the left side of the right carb
trickedcarbine
Right. And there should be a similar hole on the right side of the left carb. Make sure the bowls are correct as well. You would have a good laugh if you knew how many guys swear they got them right and then actually take 'em apart and find out they were flip flopped.
