For Those That Work

This has come to my attention, and I don't like it. I work about 55-60 hours a week, and losing overtime pay could make me not pleased. Here are some links to inform you all about what is at stake hear. Probably things you didn't even know where happening. I didn't. It really pisses me off that our own president would try to do something like this to the people of this country. This is not a political debate, but something must be done. Please at least check it out. Give it a read, and if it applies to someone you know, or you, please email, do whatever it takes to stop this ridiculousness.

I'm not sure exactly what this is about? Is he trying to get rid of people working overtime? How is that possible? I know my company, and D.O.T. regulation is that you cant drive over 60 hours a week. I know I work 45-60 hours a week depending and it would be impossible for those in the trash business to work only 40 hours a week. Hell, we cant get enough drivers as it is. All this week I finished my route....and then went and picked up 1/2-3/4 of someone else's route because their is noone else to pick it up.

Plain and simple.....if we're not allowed to get overtime.....this country is going to have trash laying everywhere.

No, you will still work the overtime, you just won't get paid 1.5X the pay rate for over 40 hours. basically, you will get straight hourly pay no matter how many hours you work...

They're getting ready to do that bullshit here where I work. Still will get double-time holiday pay, but that's it. Complete bullshit,...just so one prick(that's been here 3yrs less than I have & doesn't do shit for our company) can get a 20k/yr raise. I don't think or talk about it much because it pisses me off soo bad...sucks worse that I can't say anything because I'll get canned if I do. So yet again...me & the other guys will have to bend over & take it withought lube. :(<_<

LOOKS LIKE I WON T BE WORKING ANYMORE HOLIDAYS AFTER 03.

Bummer man. But, I have worked holidays here for 6 years, and I don't even get overtime pay for them. No holiday rate, and it's only overtime if I work over 40 hours. Not over 8 in a day. Which sucks. I am sick and friggin' tired of getting shit on. I guess I didn't suck off anyone to get a good paying job like half the politicians and CEO's of this world..... It just sucks for the people that actually have knowledge and can and want to apply it to their field....

What the Pres. is trying to do IS take away that incentive to work overtime. This in turn will force employers to hire more help=create more jobs. In theory of course. What will actualy happen is different. And I didn't hear anythign about it untill a week or two ago. It is very true, and it will happen. if noone does anything about it.....

Well, I just got this email, and I cut it, and here it is.... Please read....

A lot happened this weekend in the fight to stop President

Bush's overtime pay take-away. After weeks of strong-arming,

President Bush succeeded in keeping the ban on his overtime pay

cuts out of end-of-year legislation, even though bipartisan

majorities in the U.S. Senate and House had voted with

workers--and against President Bush. These are the same

strong-arm tactics the Bush administration used on Medicare and

other issues. Once Bush's Department of Labor announces a start

date (which could be in December) the new overtime rules will

sadly go into effect and strip overtime pay from millions of

ordinary working Americans.

URGENT ACTION is required, and in response the AFL-CIO is

calling for an OVERTIME PAY NATIONAL WEEK OF ACTION starting

Dec. 1 when we'll ask you to help spread the word about Bush's

overtime pay take-away. Talking to your friends, family and

co-workers about President Bush's attack on overtime

protections, the 40-hour workweek and the weekend is the most

important thing you can do. Our best hope for beating Bush's

overtime pay take-away is to involve millions of Americans in

this growing movement.

And, since you may have already written a letter to your

senators and representative, please send a note to your friends,

family and co-workers by clicking on the link below. Ask them to

join the fight.

If you'd prefer to send your own e-mail message, you can copy

and paste the text below into your e-mail and send it to

everybody in your e-mail address book.

Dear Friend:

President Bush is pushing a massive overtime pay take-away that

would strip overtime protections from millions of working

Americans. More than 8 million people will lose their overtime

pay possibly as soon as December. The AFL-CIO has a page where

you can send a fax for free to your senators and representative

on overtime pay. You don't have to be a union member. Please

click on the link below to help protect overtime pay.

http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/otlastchance/

After you take action, please spread the word.

Thanks.

////// copy and paste above \\\\\\

Look for an e-mail on Dec. 1 to announce the first part of the

week of action. Before then, you can get ready by building and

collecting an e-mail list you'll forward notes to during the

week of action. For the first time ever, we'll also be asking

you to print out some materials from a website and distribute

them in your workplace or your community.

Here is some of what the Bush overtime pay take-away would do as

part of the biggest rollback of overtime protections in U.S.

history:

+ Millions of salaried workers making between $22,100 and

$65,000 could be reclassified as "executives" or

"administrative" employees-and would no longer qualify for

overtime pay.

+ Relatively low-salary earners who have supervisory

responsibilities could be penalized. Workers who make $23,000 a

year could be classified as executives.

+ Workers with training or education could be hurt. This

includes medical training and IT training. Some of the jobs that

might lose overtime pay could be nurses technicians and medical

therapists but also hundreds of others.

+ Many employers would assign overtime work to newly exempt

employees and eliminate overtime work opportunities for other

overtime-eligible workers. Everybody loses.

+ Anyone making $65,000 or more a year doing office or

non-manual work would lose the right to overtime pay.

We need to stop these awful Bush overtime pay cuts so please

remember to check your e-mail on Dec. 1.

Thanks for all you do.

For years all you union guys have drove up the cost of labor, reduced worker productivity, held strikes that affect the rest of us, supported the democrats (who want to close all riding areas, as well as ban all two strokes), and have made average guys like me mad as hell to hear about prison guards making $120,000 a year. Your union leaders have put you all in this position. Your bosses can't afford to pay your probably too-high-already hourly pay as well as expensive health care, dental plans to fix your jacked up grill, paternity leave, bereavement leave, a gang of paid holidays, sick time, vacation time, and college tuition reimbursement. you guys think anyone has sympathy for you if you support the political party that would love to rip every Banshee away from us in the name of enviroMENTALISM? The Democrazies want to ban you from your favorite riding spot, period. And as for your damn overtime, ask anyone from Wheeler Construction here in Gilbert, AZ how their union has helped them. They are currently being fired because the company can't make money with a bloated payroll. Soon, cheap labor in the form of illegal mexicans will replace all union workers in this company. I find it interisting that the democrats who you support are the very ones who are inviting the illegal mexicans across the border to take your overpriced jobs. Stop worrying about overtime. Start worrying for your job.

People start a busness to make money, not to make a laborer rich.

Ummm, I'm not in a union, and I never have been. Well, once when I was forced into one when I was 16 and working at a supermarket. And yep, my >$20,000 a year job is REALLY inflated. Yep. I don't worry about my job. I know what I do, have done, and will be asked to do in the future. I don't like unions, and never have. And YOU there buddy help make the laws governing jails for prison guards. SO, how would you feel if one night, because of SEVERE understaffing, like we have here currently in Buffalo, about 1,000 prisoners get out, overtake the staff, (because there wasn't enough there) and start running rampant on the streets. They break into YOUR house, and rape your daughter. Yep, sounds like we shouldn't pay them people. There just happens to be some people on the job at prisons EVERYWHERE that want to work the overtime that is LEGALLY available, and a MUST at facilitys like that. here is a minumum number of people that have to be on staff. For good reason. But hey, let's say piss on that, and just let the criminals run around. Lay off the prisons "buddy". I don't work in one, never have. I do however know how the prison system employees work, and their regulations. I don't work in a union place. So you saying that my overtime won't get cut? During the day, 6 am untill 3:30 PM, I am out in the plants, fixing machines, and making production run smoothly as possible. Aftere that time, I am in the shop, making new machinery. Designing and building. that is where my overtime comes in. I NEED to be here during the day, and I NEED to be here in the evening. SO, what do I do now? Stop blaming the unions, they didn't do it. AMERICANS did it. The problem is friggin unemployment. I would be better off to go on that, than to work now. For the simple fact i would get paid more, free health care, ALOT more tax breaks, and the government would pay for everything. I see it happen every day. And people abuse the system, and the PResident is making it easier for that to happen. All he is goping to do is create more low paying jobs for the border jumpers, and illegal aliens, because you think that employers are going to hire legal people to fill positions because people won't work overtime now? Yep, tell me how that is gonna work.

People start a busness to make money, not to make a laborer rich.

And on the same token here "buddy", people don't work to become poor. They work to make money. I am assuming you own your own business, because of your standpoint on this. Or, you are an illegal alien. I do own my own business, and I work for someone else. I don't like it on both accounts. overtime is by FAR cheaper for an employer to pay, than to hire another or several full time employees, because with the new person(s) comes extra health care costs, and everything else involved.
