m671054
How much better is the traction on a negative arm? Just putting together a basic woods/trail bike. Basic motor bolt-ons, pipes, reeds, head, timing. Out west most of the year is hard pack with gravel on top so traction is impossible with a stock arm.also how close are the tires to the pegs? Thinking a -1 with 22" tire. Input from -2 arm riders would be helpful.
m671054
Do you have enough traction to lift the front end at will? Any time i get into the power band it just spins tires with no lift. Even in the good dirt sections its horrible. Are your pro pegs down and back from stock? trickedcarbine
-2 on ice FTW!
m671054
Right now new18" douglas mx. Ordering kenda klaws just trying to iron out size. Either 20 or 22" depending on what will fit the arm needed for traction.
trickedcarbine
20's on -2 can be a handful. If you have hopes of 22" tires, go -1.
sheerider11
Pro pegs and 21" paddles, -1.5" swingarm. On any type of terrain I can get the front tires off the ground, but I also have a mid range motor that gets on the pipe QUICK. Sick pipes
sheesfast
Right now new18" douglas mx. Ordering kenda klaws just trying to iron out size. Either 20 or 22" depending on what will fit the arm needed for traction. One thing I've noticed with the Klaws is that they are true to the size printed on the tire. Mine measure exactly 22" high, unlike other brands that measure shorter than what they claim to be. I'd try the 22s, first before changing arms. My serval hooks good on gravel with them and a stock arm.
m671054
Will do. Im going to try the 22" first. Then -1 if that doesnt work. If both fail its gonna be time for drastic changes, gonna try a yfz 450.
sheesfast
What gearing are you running with the 18" you have now? That may be part of the problem also. Good idea to do tires first, alot cheaper than guessing on a swinger. I love my 450 but it's nothing like a shee on a open road.
m671054
Im geared at 13-41 which was good for the stock motor with pipes. I would like to keep the motor as is. I fully agree on wide open area riding a banshee is where its at. I have 3 more for that purpose. Im looking to do more tight technical dirtbike sized trails. So gearing needs to be low and traction needs to be high. just order tires. Will be leaving gearing the same for now even though ro is going up alot. sheesfast
13/41 is way too low for 18's, your just overpowering the tires grip. Think that 13/42 was stock gearing on 87-88 models with 22" tires. I ran 14/40 for mx with 18's. 13/40 for hare scrambles with 22's back when I raced a ported stock engine. You will be amazed at the difference between the tire sizes grip and imo your gearing will be fine for those 22's. And I'm a east coast guy, what's tight trails and roll out? Trail was marked as 40" recomended width. It had some real tight spots but not bad. 3rd and 4th the whole way. I will try and find a vid of the steep stuff. Out here most riding is geared towards dirt bikes in the forest My other bikes are mainly drag. Ro is tire roll out.
m671054
If that works about the 3 minute mark gives you a good idea of summer ground conditions. Hill is steeper than it looks on video.
