Burke
I think that has the 3 layer ring that you use a pick or a flat screwdriver to get out
banshee35027
I'm sure it's easy. Just never done one before and just to give me a heads up. Where could I find the packing if it's not from toomeys? Lowes maybe?
Bennett131
I have used stainless steel pot scrubbers as well, they last and don't sound too bad actually.
Burke
any bike shop will have actual 2 stroke packing, or you can use pink fiberglass insulation or a bunch of steel wool pads... each will vary on how long it will last though
hoppedupandcutdown
My yfz450 Toomey has that pain in the ass flat 3-layer clip, but all the T-5's I've ever bought had a regular snap ring. I use FMF packing, or anything cheap.
sheerider11
I luckily have a cycle gear in town and will grab a bag usually every visit. It's like 10 bucks fmf brand. Toomey uses a snap ring. If they are old and a negligent owner had them, the cores can be rotted and broken. If they are order new ones. Packing is a seasonal thing. Cheap and always noticeable in a good way.
do-work-son
Mine had a snap ring I ordered new packing and a new core straight from toomey it was pretty reasonabley priced and cut to size. Or the fly racing packing seems like good stuff http://www.toomey.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=14&Itemid=3&vmcchk=1&Itemid=
banshee35027
Where is the snap ring located?

banshee35027
How hard is it to put back In?
banshee35027
Jk just now noticed it was outside the pipe. Not inside. Dumb moment. Sorry. I think I got it. Thanks man.
hoppedupandcutdown
VERY easy if the core is in the right spot on the other end.
Starwriter
Something like this. The ones with the removable tips are junk. The ones that are convertible from internal to external are only slightly better.
trickedcarbine
R13 (pink stuff) is fine. Two to three nice tight wraps around and use electric tape on it to keep it fluffed evenly. The grey/brown Owens Corning stuff is stock in the shearers. But to be honest the older Glassier stuff is bitchin. I actually keep chunks of it when I demo homes that have it from the 50's-60's. I just re did my shearers in Rock Wool.(fire retardant insulation) it was a bitch but I figured out a way to just make a tube out of a large rectangular chunk. Just drilled the center out with a 24" auger drill bit that I had. Sounds pretty nice but for the effort I hope it lasts.
Larry's Shee
I have used stainless steel pot scrubbers as well, they last and don't sound too bad actually. This ^ ^ ^ . Buy them at dollar store or Wally World. Did FMF cans this way, sounds great, will last forever, and won't get soaked and harden/burn.
