registered user
new to this stuff but i understand what the purpose of a overide is but im wondering if you use a shift pro and modded star with it also ? what does nuetral down meen ? typically on a overide do you still pull up on the gear lever to upshift ? dave5.0
Negative on the shift star and all that being modded. Neutral down means exactly what it says. Neutral is now at the very bottom instead of between 1-2. Shifting is the same.
trickedcarbine
Some over rides have a very quirky specific shift star set up. As in pins moved and re welded. Tips on the outer endge are sort of profiled on some with more distinct work in the valley as opposed to normal star work that is more rounded and no work in the valleys. Dave is right on point with the neutral down. On an over ride you can/should be able to clutchless up shift with a swift flick of the toe on the lever. Now if there are any manual gears in the cluster you may be able to time it right and shift clutchless, but I'd definitely give it a slight fan of the clutch if you want it to live. When you down shift you have to pull the clutch ENTIRELY. Then and only when you are throttling on to move the bike under the Motor's momentum, can you let off the clutch. Some dunables claim to be able to back load a little bit, but it just seems sketchy. If you can get your hands on a used WCR snag it but don't send him gears. Otherwise, there is a few fellas selling nice over rides.
Deadbeat
what about a 2-5 overide...1st and 6th are removed completely? and what about some other configerations, like think ive heard 1-4 overide but 5th and 6th require clutch? can those top 2 gears take backloading or no
dave5.0
Man 1st and sixth. First used for putting around the pits and such. My 1-5 n down is only a 5 speed. 6th came out. Yes on the back loading top gears. They should be stock.

dave5.0
I'll also ad that an override is one of the coolest damn things I've ever done to my heap. It has some limits you have to stick to but for drag racing and just gettin all over it in a straight line there's nothing like it. If you've got decent power shifting gears wide open with no clutch is pretty baddass.
registered user
ok nuetral down meens all the gears would be above that position, i understand that. how would you accomplish that on a 1-5, do you have to rotate the star on the drum or is the drum chanells modified so the forks can go alittle bit below first gear ? if it was nuetral down 2-5 i guess you could just weld the shift drum chanells so the forks couldnt go below the normal nuetral position. is the purpose of nuetral down just so you wont have to shift through a nuetral ? why couldnt you use a shift pro with overide ? from what i understand, the shift pro is just a arm with ball bearing roller, alittle wider than the stock arm roller. i dont see how the shift pro would keep the overide from functioning normal why wouldnt you use a modded shift star ? would the trans jump out of gear or something else ? trying to make sense of this stuff
dave5.0
I was told you don't need all that stuff because it will shift TOO easy. An override shifts extremely easy the way it is. I don't think n down is actual neutral. I think it just holds betwen gears or smthn of that nature. Same effect but not neutral like on a stocker. Not sure of the actual reason behind n down. Guess I forgot that one. Somebody smart will tell us here I'm sure. Not sure you do a n down with other configurations. Like a 2-5. Maybe the n down changes need more space on the drum? Can't remember. That's why 6th is taken out. I don't think the other configurations lose any gears? Could be wrong.
trickedcarbine
I'm trying to find a link that helped it make sense to me. It was 5 years ago, so it may take some digging.
BANSHEEBEEFM2M
I run a 2 through 5. Put around or pull up to the line in 1st. 6th gear was removed. Never downshift under power or going downhill. I used to not see what the big deal was about it, then i got one and i wouldn't change it for shit. Youll never wanna pull a clutch in again
