.
What is everyone using for a break in premix oil? Only thing I can find is semisynthetic premixes, and castor based premixes. I know the castor base is not synthetic, but likes to coat things, and a semisynthetic still has synthetics in it. What would you recommend? fixitrod
To tell you the truth, I think break in is way more simple than people make it out to be. All you need is a few heat cycles to seat the rings. Anybody ever had trouble from not taking pre-caution from a break in,.
Justintoxicated
I broke mine in with yamalube 2-R (first tank-well almost I drained the reserve) then switched to castor 927.
ledofthezep
I've heard people doing just as Justinintoxicated said. I don't see any reason why you'd have any problems....IMHO I'd say that you'd want to start out with what you'll continue to use.

PassionRE
Honda GN2 works great for break in...just run about 2 gallons of fuel with the regular Honda oil before you switch over the the synthetic stuff..its really neccessary IMO...Jim
GM Grimmy
I just got my 03 shee a month ago, and I have been using polaris gold, a full synthetic, mixing about 32:1. As for break in, just didn't hold it at one position for very long, and didn't hit any high rev's for about a tank to a tank and a half. Still took it a little easy after that, for about the first 6 gallons (that is how big my gas can is )
.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Jim you pretty much hit what I was looking for. I've broken in a lot of 4stroke engines (atv, and race vehicle) and know that a good seat is very important. It can make you or break you. I never even looked at the honda stuff. All I could find was semi's or castors. I know they have the honda stuff there. You shouldnt be using a full synthetic for break in GM. When an engine is wearing in the rings are wearing into the crosshatches in your cylinder walls creating a seal. When you use synthetics it is extra slippery and doesnt allow this to happen as well, creating an engine that is not going to run at its full potential. It is commonly called glazing a cylinder. I also firmly believe in pushing an engine. It will run how its born. After its heat cycles you can feel where the engine doesnt want to go in the rpm range. You need to take it to that point. Its a fine line and something that comes with experience of knowing how far to push it, without hurting the engine.
