Wallrat
Tough call...I love riding sand and don't get to do it enough. I might bring my knobbies, it might all come down to room. I probably won't decide until the day I'm loading everything up whether I'm bringing them or not. I agree though, it looked like some sweet desert trails out there! banshee370
Wallrat Great post w/ GPS Coordinates.... I think that last one will help. Im not sure if this will help but a friend of mine that I will be with posted this from the email list.. Does this sound familiar? Or a decent spot to camp? regarding campspot. I am going this weekend and will take pictures of my regular camping spot. it's g\fairly close to the blm outhouse for any tenters and far enough away from the dunes to keep the rookies from getting stuck. I usually camp northeast of the #4 outhouse but far enough to be away from traffic. I will have to draw a map and figure out how to get it scanned for posting. Now as for desert riding.... I've been thinking about bringing my dirt tires, but that will depend on the size of the container my shee ships in. I doubt my paddles will last very long over those rocks 50 days, 5 hours, 56 minutes, and 59 seconds left until ROOSTFEST 2004 Dumont................. BenBB
if we ride out twards amargossa canyon behind the dunes theres tons of real fast washes with 6 foot walls to scurry through............ Sweet. I'm ordering some new Holeshots today (gotta get 18" MXR's tho, can't afford a set of 20"ers just yet, will hafta bring a 15T front sprocket), and I'll make sure I got my swingarm skidplate mounted. I am down for the desert AND the dunes

fixitrod
would anyone be interested in going on a desert ride ? i think it would be cool to rip it up out there as well as dumont but like duece said, usually head out in the desert away from dumont. the sands gonna be bitchin and the desert as well, great riding in both spots. im bringing my dirt tires too, anyone else, me and duece can be your tour guides at 6th gear pined ! ahhh i cant wait !!!! I sure will be. I love riding in the desert. I was in elpaso for almost 3yrs. I'm in. Maybe we could make a run to vegas .. not on quads of course. Wallrat
370, sounds like your buddies camp is about 300 feet north of the gps coordinates I gave. I got mine just a bit south, towards the dunes, of the southern outhouse (I think it was number 4). For people arriving at night, you can't see the outhouses but the "road" goes right by them. As you're driving in, you'll pass through a small creek and then a BLM sign. After that you head up a small hill and you'll pass the ranger station on your right. If you stick to the road about a quarter mile you'll pass right by the northern outhouse on your left. It sounds like your buddy camps just passed that point and off to the right of the road. A picture from him will help. Here's the general layout, assuming I identified all the blurry objects correctly: Taken from the top of the eastern dune looking NNW... The blue rectangle is the ranger station. The black line is the road coming in. The black "X's" are the bathrooms The Blue circle is near the area where the GPS coordinates that I gave are. banshee370
Wallrat: Thanks for the map/pic/desription. I posted it to the email list for their comments... My friend I will be going with, will be there this weekend. He said he will try to get some GPS points mapped out for us. Dont take this the wrong way but here is what he posted in return.... (I've never been there so I dont know what is what and where is what Walt, that pic and statement are not really accurate. # 4 outhouse is to the left side of the main dirt road and out about 1/4 mile. we will be about 300 feet (EST) n/w of it. I will draw a map, get some pics and try to get exact GPS for you all and post Monday or Tues. ynot This is what was posted from another friend... I had a cheapass roostfest banner made for New Years that he will have hung by his trailer.. From the looks of that pic our camp will be more down the road and on the other side. Also I will have the RF banner hanging up in plain view from the road. or aimed toward the road anyway. I'll have it hung on my trailer (easy to spot as it has no fender on this side) which will also have this 22' flag pole on it: http://www.sandbros.com/files/mikestrailer/trailer.JPG Speaking of flags I will have a bunch of these forsale at RF. They are telescoping fiberglass poles which compact down to 4'. They come with a 'holder' which is either mounted to the trailer or to a ladder on your trailer.$70 each. They are very strong! Mike Hopefully by early next week I will have a good map for everyone and maybe some pics of trucks/trailers to look for.
Wallrat
No worries 370. I've only been there the one time and already my memory of the place is fading. I was just trying to give an estimate of where those gps coordinates would take you. It sounds like finding camp won't be much of an issue. I know how some people can get offended by the smallest things... and thats NOT my intentions. I dont think it will be a problem for everyone.... but I want to make it as easy as possible for everyone... Some of the guys going will be arriving there on the 2nd. It just gets a lil crazy when I am doing the same here as with our email list. The email list seems to be a little faster for everyone to reply and stay up to date.... Thanks again
Wallrat
Trust me, I'm the least likely person to get offended by anything. But yeah I know what you mean. Besides, I have to stay in the good graces of all you RV'ers if I want a chance at a shower. Hahahaha
banshee370
Boonman and Fixitrod: Can you please prvt msg me your addresses... I'm trying to help Banchetta w/ maps and directions w/ the program I have. We spent a good amount of time on the phone lastnight trying to plan everything out. With what we figured he will be at my house sunday night (Feb 29) and once he picks my shee up he will then leave for Boonman's (hopefully arriving by around midnight +\-) We both feel that by leaving a day early or even a night early he can beat some of the rush hour traffic in some areas. Also being that its March and who knows what the weather can be especially up in Buffalo and around Chicago. Banchetta: My buddy that has made the trip out to Glamis twice told me that it is possible to make it in 48hrs... If ALL you do is stop for gas/food/shit and nothing else. That is also not in the winter, Or going near Buffalo/Chicago. He does NOT recommend trying to make it in 48hrs.
Banchetta
Are you doubting me to make it in 48 hours!!!!!! I'd prove you wrong if I didn't have 5 other peoples quads... I'm thinking 57 hours w/ eating, gassing, etc.....we have 3.5 days anyways, if everything is going smoothly, then we'll hit a motel halfway or more for 8 hours.... ROADTRIP!!!!!! Justintoxicated
Hey guys, I don't think im going to make it. I have some sorta coolant leak. I thoguht it was a split ring in the head, but I was really careful when i put it on this time after replacing the bad o-ring. When I start the bike it starts spitting coolant out onto the pipe and shoots coolant out the pipes also. Im now guessing I need to replace a seal on my crank. (the seal was just replaced when I had my crank welded, But I guess it has already gone to shit. I think im going to need to split the cases again, so ill probably be out of luck untill next year or longer (since I lose my job when I graduate college)...
