mrmatt
Allright, my wife and I have been talking about this for that past two days and it might be a possiblity for us. But we need to figure some things out. I checked out the rules on the Roostfest website and am concerned about the spark arrestor requirement. Do they actually check for this? I'd hate to run run my stock pipes and I don't think I can swing the cost of the new pipes, two sets of paddle tires and all of the other expenses for the trip. I've got a couple of stock swingarms laying around that I was going to cut down then sell. But, I might just lengthen one of these for myself . But damn, 60 hours of driving . By the way fixitrod, I don't see your name on the website. Are you and spoin still trying to figure out how to get there.
banshee370
MrMatt: I need to update my site (roostfest) so as of right now their names are not listed. (they will be soon) As for spark arrestors...... I have not heard of anyone being checked for it. BUT thats not to say they cant. From what I was told... If your caught being a jackass then they can ticket you. Dont be a jackass and I doubt you will have any problems

Dont be a jackass and I doubt you will have any problems So basically if the FishCops see you acting like a moron in and around a camp, they will stop you?? Its like that at St Anthony and Sand Mountain during the holidaze. Out into the dunes away from camp, they really don't care unless you are littering, posess glass bottles, or driving an on road vehicle into the dunes at St. A. At SandMountain I've seen them pull over people driving excessively fast infont of the face and north sides of Sand Mountian, but when you have 30,000 people there, 80% of which are probably drinking, its a good thing. I don't have spark arrestors either btw.
Blue Duece
they wont bother you for no sparky Stan.......unless you start giving them some shit then they will right you up for everything they can..pretty much like any cop would.......i know a few of the BLM guys, they are just forestry rangers, ive never had a problem with them..... Yamahammer
you can make a hokey spark arrester buy putting a small bolt or safety wire through the exaust in a cross.. all they do is put a stick in the exaust if it stops the think you have one.. One more excuse eliminated. one of my other buddies took apart the screen on the kitchen faucet and used the scren to act as a spararrester.. spoin39
Hey Mrmatt, I modify my stock silencers to fit my pipes just in case, It's real easy to do! Fixitrod, boonman and I are trying to get there but still need to work out the details. If there is a way you can make it do it! Maybe we can work something out since I live 25-30mi from you. If the rod stops, and they want to be a prick about it, they can look for the U.S. forest service stamp and numbers. if they are not present on the silencer with the alleged spark arrestor, than they can still ticket you even though the rod stops in the silencer. I had it happen to me and 2 buddies at Silver Lake when we spent 3 hours fashioning up sweet fake spark arrestors. They wouldn't let us in. They were being dick's that day. It wasn't busy, and it was during the week. On the weekend, they didn't even check..... Sparky's are about $65 ea.

Wallrat
The rangers there seemed really kickback so I doubt they'll bother you about sparkys unless you're asking for it. I don't have em either and haven't gotten checked yet. Out here, I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket because the rangers didn't find the USFS approval number. Every instance I've heard of the rangers just stuck something into the pipe and if it stops they let you off. I took a few cotter pins and stuck them though the core of my FMF's. I keep a long bolt with me in camp so if they stop and ask I can just shove the bolt in and show em. Also it helps that I have a reciept that shows I just bought the bike so if they wanna nail me for a modified spark arrestor I can try the "it was this way when I bought it" line. Probably won't work but its worth a try. I got the impression that the rangers were there mostly to keep people from riding 60mph through somebody's camp, dodging kids while not wearing a helmet and drinking from a bottle of Jack and toking on a bong. If you've got something illegal about your bike, just be respectful and courteous and try not to draw any attention to yourself. Its worked for me so far.
