So the banshee I got for cheap, $700 had a list full of mods and was suppose to have been a 420cc engine ect..

Well to me it felt low on power, got hot and ran like a total dog, was quick for not have ridden a quad in years but not not a banshee should run IMO...

So I got leery of what it actually was besides seeing the obvious PD cool head, toomey t5s and pwk carbs with k&n pods.

Took it apart to find it had stock length hot rod rods with a 64.5mm wiseco piston, so it's a 353, no big deal, found out it had 19cc domes and I was like wtf? Why was this guy running pump gas at 40:1?

Got the vito water pump impeller and mull billet drive gear as the plastic one was beginning to melt.

Did the DIY timing mod, wasn't impressed with my skills so ordered a Mattoon, while upon assembly I noticed the flywheel woodruff key looked weird and ill be damned it's a +4 key from Vito's, I know from reading on here it's a no oh and a turd so I have an oem one on the way, it's the hold up on the bike right now.

So my question is, his the heck was this thing running and not detonating it's ass off? I ball honed the jugs and put new rings kicked it over to 170-175 both sides.

Has a 45 pilot jet and a 138 main jet, I have a feeling they are too small for this bike and I can't wait to make some pulls, with 104 octane of course.

You are on the right track. Race gas territory for sure. Get some 22's and it should put you back in pump gas range. And you should be able to give it a bit of timing.

This is all to common. Guy hears how cool banshees are. Buys one stock and gets beat up. So he either red neck engineers EVERYTHING! Or, buys a bunch of good parts, slaps them together with out ever thinkin of over all set up. Then they start it up and it rattles plugs out, burns holes in pistons, etc. But it's really "cuz banshees are unreliable". Has nothing to do with the bit with under fueling, not jetting, throwing timing at something already backing plugs.

I have a drag strip a few miles from my house so Im going to run some race gas through it and enjoy the extra compression with the added timing, see what it likes.

I'm hoping it runs a lot better then before, on pavement with my ass at the back of the seat it wouldn't lift the front wheels in 1st gear.. But it would have power up top, didn't feel right.

My friends tried to convince me "2 strokes have no low end, that's why"

Pfft
