Basicorpse
What is the difference between the air filter adapter pictured here: And the stock one besides the fact that the one pictured is metal. Can't I just drill two holes in the stock filter adapter to achieve the same effect? Would I remove the foam from the back of the stock filter adapter or just leave it on there? Eventually I am going with the toomey 2:1 intake system but for now I just want to run without the lid without worrying about my engine sucking in dust. fixitrod
There is a lip on the metal adapters that helps keep the filter on. Suppose to help flow to because of the shape but hey.... who really knows. Mines just bolted on and I've had no trouble for 3 years.
Justintoxicated
bolt on the stock one, remove the foam and apply Clear RTV silicon around it to seal it. Workign for going on 5 years now for me.
dlnoss
I ran them that way, (the plastic one screwed on and sealed with silicone) until I started making them. Really, the main advantage of the metal one is that it won't bow and cause a leak and the filter is more secure because of the lip on the flange. The hole is matched to the airbox hole on the billet one. I never had any trouble with the inexpensive way.
Basicorpse
I am goin riding this weekend and I want to make sure it is secure. My intake system is already on order. I just got new pipes and it runs horribly unless I remove the airbox lid.

That is great of you dlnoss.
