Justintoxicated
I was digging around in my little black book and found Factory Yamaha Roadrace specs on RZ reed cages. Widen openings 1.5mm, Raise openings 4.5 mm and lower openings 4.5mm. All cuts should be at 16 degrees...just a tid bit if your interested...Jim hey Jim, am I screwed or what? Did I just destroy these then?
PassionRE
I doubt it Justin...your motor needs so much more air than its getting I'm sure you'll be ok until you get the v-forces..Jim

Also About getting the reed's back on the cages, I notice one side on the reed is cut, and one side on the metal part that bolts onto the cage is cut...Do they have to be put together a certain way? PassionRE
Not sure what your saying Justin about the reeds. Hey, when you checked your compression last week, were you holding the throttle wide open when you were checking it?...Jim

Hey, when you checked your compression last week, were you holding the throttle wide open when you were checking it?...Jim yep notice to the left the reed's corner is cut, and the metal plate that bolts over it is shaped different on one side than the other...Does these things have to match up a certain way or anything? dirtbike killer
If you find out later that you did mess them up. Look on ebay. I got some stock ones off there for 5 bucks. I plan on doing the same thing. Its a cheap way to go for now, until you want to splurge on some new ones. I see them on there all the time. Oilsmoke
Justin I had to cut the other corner so i could install my 1/2 inch spacer. It didn't hurt a thing on my shee and the way it ran. Hope this helps.
BenBB
I don't think it'll matter on which way the reeds go on (relative to that notch). And that one spot, when the reed is shut is there any air gap at all?

And that one spot, when the reed is shut is there any air gap at all? Ben, just that little ding. I just hope I didn't make the reeds worse than they were before i tried to port them I spent alot of time on the insides, only to ding the rubber with a file Like I said this is my first time porting anything...Looks like I'll just have to buy V-force reeds over the summer I don't think I want to wast anymore money on stock ones. Justintoxicated
Hey guys Im having some trouble with by banshee now. I guess my porting sucks or else the ding is really causing problems. One of my pipe is shooting out hot air and the other cold. One pipe is hot the other is not, Both seem to fire though, could this be due to the small ding in the reeds? damn I feel stupid for trying this now. Screamin_Banshee
Justin, Is the problem at idle, or thru the revs? Is the side w/ the nick the one thats colder? If so, it is probably lettin more fuel thru, and possibly fouling the plug.... If this is the case, its no problem, I have another set if you need them- or you can go w/ V-Force like you have planned. As feelin stupid for doing it yourself, atleast you gave it a try, right? PassionRE
Justin, if you nicked a sealing lip you might notice a little reversion on the intakes at the back of the carbs at low rpm( spitting air out instead of sucking air in). Are you sure your pilot jets are both clean? If one pipe is HOT and one COLD, I cant help but think you have a clogged jet, sync is way out, or like you said, one reed is screwed....Also, screw in a new set of plugs just for good measure...Jim
Justintoxicated
you were right jim, my pilot jet was plugged (1 tiny grain of sand). I Think the reeds will be fine. Hopefully the porting I did will help out some. Although I know I really just need new carbs...
IrideA250R
having that 1 reed not seal the best *might* make it a bit hard to start, but I wouldn't worry about it if it isn't.

I can't count the times I've done something semi major to my banshee, throw it all back together to encounter a problem that had nothing to do with what I was just tinkering with. I think the banshee's have gremlins or gnomes breakin shit when you aren't looking. Frusterating. More frusterating that being married even.
