Cotton eyed Joe
My engine might me getting started here in the coming days/week, but its sat for over a year now. I have periodically rolled it over by hand and sprayed WD-40 down the plug holes, and have kept paper towels over the exhaust and intakes as well. Is there anything I should do or need to do before I try to get this thing running again??
txblueshee
Might just put some premix earl in the cylinders and clean the carbs. Then you should be good to go. Mike
fixitrod
Fire it up. That's how I did my boat when it sat all winter. Of course I fogged the engine before winter.
boonman
I would put a spray or two of WD in the cylinders, but with a 2 stroke, you don't have to worry to much, there is oil in the fuel!!!!!!!!
BenBB
You might pull the carbs and check the bowls for sediment/old fuel and insure that the mains and pilots aren't clogged. I'm sure you have a clean air filter and fresh premix so I won't even go there. Probably wouldn't hurt to pull off the stator cover and make sure something hasn't made a nest in there, and all the electrical connectors are tight. Make a sacrificial offering to the 2-stroke gods...perhaps set a small weedeater motor on fire, don't forget to chant "iiintake...eeeexhaust", and wear a piston-ring necklace. They like that. Oh yeah, tell her "please please please start", don't let her catch you sayin' "goddammit if it doesn't start this time I'm gonna shove it off a bridge"... itsaripper
The quick way first. Turn on gas and open the little screw at bottem of carb. Let some gas flow through. If no gas, take off the float bowl and spray some brake clean or bearymans kemtool up through the main jet and also the pilet too. Put back on and try to start. Start with a new set of plugs. Should have said that first.

banshee370
Stan: My shee sat from Sept 2001 until a month ago. I had flooded the motor w/ WD-40 way back in 01'. It took me a few days to get all the WD out of the motor. Once that was done 2 kicks later it was running I let her warm up slowly and fully cool down. (1 heat cycle) after that I gave her hell. I felt if it blows up... then I will know what went wrong I agree w/ Boonman... Keep the swearing and tool tossing to a minimum. I gave mine a lil pat on the tank and said "Come on baby". I just wish that worked on my wife..... Thats a different story and a whole new topic
fixitrod
I wouldn't use wd-40. It will actually clean the oil off the parts . I'd make sure clean gas was in the carb like said above.

Cotton eyed Joe
I did see something a while ago that said (Maybe it was the owners manual....I know I'm a bad Banshee owner ) put 2 table spoons of premix down the plug holes. The only thing I'm afraid of doing is 1) Like Fixit said, washing the oil off of any bearing surfaces or ring surfaces, and 2) like B370 said, getting it all out so it isn't flooded when I start kicking it over. I think the sacrificial thing might work too. I will throw together a make shift shrine to the 2 Stroke Gods, and see what happens. THANKS!!!
