ETR174
I watched Sparky's video and he said 1mm is equivalent to 1 degree :/
ETR174
I looked it up and everyone that did a write up on the timing plate mod said that 1mm is actually 1.136 degrees. Burke
IIRC... in that photo he had only ground down the high spots on the plate and hadn't actually elongated any holes because the drill battery was dead?... so you are seeing the project halfway through and he is talking about it completed. You are on 2 different stages.

ETR174
I would trust sprinkler or sparky. That sparky dude is clueless on many things.Well it's not just Sparky. AKheathen's write up on the mod said that 1mm = 1.136 degrees. Also when a couple of other people posted about the timing plate mod the people giving them instructions said the same thing. sprinklerman
Well it's not just Sparky. AKheathen's write up on the mod said that 1mm = 1.136 degrees. Also when a couple of other people posted about the timing plate mod the people giving them instructions said the same thing.I'll TRY to help you one last time. Measuring the hole is inaccurate. (Hint: you really can't accurately ... there's an arc to the holes, not straight line) Try measuring off a fixed point on the case(like aftermarket degree wheels do) ,use a degree wheel on your crank, and see what you come up with. I'm not saying it a huge difference, but if your off .25mm per degree,or vis versa , you'll be off 1° total. Judging by the quality and accuracy of the pictures you posted, you're not within .25mm on any of it.
91coupemike
Quick question on using an engine degree wheel for checking ignition timing. On a car you use a signal from #1 cyl and use a timing light, and I've only used my degree wheel for cam timing, not ignition timing. Line zero up with the crank key and?? trickedcarbine
You need to figure out TDC and BDC. Set the degree wheel to zero with a pointer of some sort mounted on the motor.
