The guy I bought it from had it setup for MX...ITP wheels, nurfs, and of course these 18" Holeshots...Now these are nice...and hookup great...... However, while riding this weekend at ONF, going down a long str8 I was in 6th about mid throttle going about 60...Then gunned it and pulled hard to redline and about 70mph!! (Guessing) Now thats not bad but this Shee is really setup and FAST!!! I felt like I needed at least one more gear Im gonna double check the 6th gear but I am pretty sure its working.... So, I am thinking that since it has the stock 14t front spoket and these much smaller 18's in the rear, I need to change them OR change the front sproket to a 15 or more...Now I am NOT gonna be dragging right now, but DO want to take out some other quads when "neccessary" and KEEP the bottom end quickness So, what would be the best way to do this? If your not riding a groomed MX track, you'll find that the 18s are difficult to trail ride with, you'll be hitting your rear sprocket\rear brake rotor all the time. Keep the 14 sprocket, sell the 18's and get a set of 20 inch tires. If you insist on running the 18 inch tires, and want more top end, then go for the 15 front sprocket or fiddle with the teeth amount on your rear sprocket. That's what all my friends ride on with 18's gives you alittle more top end but plenty of bottom end, and you can ride 2,3,4 way out. So increase to a 15 in the front and a 40 in the rear? Question: What is the difference between increasing one size in the front and going down one in the rear? SCOTT PRESSLEY Posted November 20, 2003 Report Share Posted November 20, 2003 Answer to question,let's start with stock gearing 14/41 that is a gear ratio of 2.93.If you go up in front to a 15 you will be geared 2.73. then if you go with 15/40 it would be 2.67.If you don't have a chart you just deived the front gear number into the rear to get your ratio.With the 18's you can run a higher gear ratio.I learned this from a few post I made here and some sugestions from the SHEE RIDERS here .This is a very knowledgable group,read and learn I do.
