dgk30
Hi all, I just bought a banshee and for whatever reason the previous owner painted the chrome T5 pipes with black high temp paint. I would really like to get the paint off and polish them back the way they should be. I dont know if paint thinner or stripper will also take off the chrome so I am hesitant to try anything until I get some input. The silencers are not painted but are pretty dull so If anyone has a good product that will cleran and polish those it would also be appreciated. I will try to add pics later Thanks! WINDYCITYJOHN400
Careful....those might be the "Poor Boy" edition. If so, they come in a raw finish and aren't chrome underneath.
dgk30
They are chrome, some of the paint was chipping in a spot and it is for sure chome.

WINDYCITYJOHN400
Ok, just checkinh. I know CPI sells pipes in raw. I've seen some Toomeys that were raw. Didn't want to see you strip them and have to repaint them.
BurnsideBanshee
Did you look through the Pipe polishing thread? Really nice. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=176326&page=3&hl=%2Bbling+%2Bbling#entry1624176
possum
Laquer thinner and a rag. This is your best bet. its messy but get alot of old tshirts snd have at it
salmon_slayer06
That ceramic based high temp paint is good stuff. The T5's on my banshee are painted flat black. Good enough for me looks great.
Larry's Shee
This is your best bet. its messy but get alot of old tshirts snd have at it Only suggested that because unsure how stripper would be on chrome. Good stuff is pretty nasty shit.
draggins10
I used old gas and it took the high temp paint right off. Not sure what effect it would have on the chrome though
trickedcarbine
Gas is ok on chrome. Some of the best chrome cleaners and polishes are petroleum based
dgk30
Thanks for all the help! I decided to go with some paint thinner I had laying around and it worked great... One problem though, there seems to be a layer of a hard metallic red over the original chrome, doesn't look bad except that it's chipped off in places and I would like it all removed. The thinner doesn't touch it. I can chip it away slowly by scraping with my finger nail if I start in a spot where it's already chipped but that would take forever. I am hoping there is something I can use that will remove that without scratching up the chrome. If anyone knows what this is or how to remove it let me know. Thanks
red96shee
That looks like some kind of plateing. Have you tried real fine steel wool? It doesnt scratch chrome other than that you would need a stiff polishing wheel on a bench grinder with some cutting polish/rouge theres a thread on here that has some real good advice on polishing pipes. Most of that stuff you can pick up at a big rig truck parts store. Thats where i get it from.

dgk30
I used regular paint thinner, I will give lacquer thinner a try this weekend as well as some fine steel wool.
