At least that's my minimal experience. I didn't add any variable. I said if you keep the OD the same on a shaft and only add a center hole, the solid will withstand more force before failure. This doesn't means solid is weaker when size is the same. Already stated that with same cross sectional area, hollow would be stronger because it would have a bigger diameter.
