Banchetta
I don't know for sure, but I'd stay away from any synthetic oils for the tranny...I'd think the synthetic properties would make a clutch slip, but I'm not positive.. chase73
Has anyone tried to use the yz490 clutch I am pretty sure some people switched to that setup you may want to look into it I just started to veiw the topic today adn my first guess was the clutch 2 from experence . Ask Dan what clutch is best he runs high HP engines I have heard about the yz490 clutch being used but stiffer springs will work. just get a ez pull lever like the raptor one and u will be fine
tats4life
If it's your clutch use a clutch from an R1 street bike. That's what I use and have always used with no problems.

He recommended the Barnette or EBC so I think I'll try the EBC EP Race Kevlar kit.
fixitrod
Did you have enough slack in the clutch cable. If not, you dragged the clutch the whole time. Is the cable good. Make sure it's not sticking. Other than that, I don't know why you'd have so much trouble with that clutch. If it's new, you might find it to have a 6 month warranty or something. Did you have all 6 springs in it (hd springs)
Blacksmith
Look into AmsOil's 4 stroke motor oil. It is a high quality synthetic oil that is designed for wet clutches. It gives you the best of all worlds.

Did you have all 6 springs in it (hd springs) I adjusted it like 3x before finally putting on the cover. The adjuster was in all the way fully clockwise at the lever. At the adjuster screw on the pressure plate, I forget which way the adjuster was to go but it was basically as far is could go. There was no loose play in the cable to be felt in the lever no matter how much I adjusted it. The arrow went so slightly past the arrow but I thought it would be alright. WELL, obivously it wasn't
MULLET~BOY
when you were tighting the screw did you have the adjustemet on the lever all teh way in then did you have some one hold the arm on the case all the way forword ?till you alighned it with the notch then tightend the nut then let go of the arm and go up to the bars and adjust out till you got the the half inch of slack did you start with a new cable

I did the job myself so I might have held the arm with a screwdriver or something while moving the screw but don't remember for sure. I did follow the Clymers manual though but sure screwed up somewhere.
fixitrod
I was talking about the adjustment at the perch. You have to have some slack there so the clutch isn't pulled a little.
IrideA250R
ATF Type F is what you want to run to avoid clutch slippage. That being said, Barnett clutches are crap. If a new clutch doesn't help (it should), you might want to check for an air leak in your motor by leakdown testing it.

You have to have some slack there so the clutch isn't pulled a little. The adjuster on the pearch was all the way in, however, there was no slack so that must have been the problem. No matter how much I adjusted stuff, I could not get any slack in the cable to be felt in the lever but thought it would be alright. I was wrong. Suppose to have like 1/4" slack right? I do use ATF Type F and I did the leakdown test already.

I'm not sure why you couldn't get any slack though. Are you sure you adjusted the center screw on the pressure plate right. It sound like it from what I read. You made sure the arrows lined up under your left carb. You my have the cable kinked or the cable is sticking.
