m671054
Need weight of bike/rider. Primary ratio and surface/style of racing to get good answers
CottonBranchRacing
You could go out and run the bike and you'll know soon enough what you need to do with the clutch better than we could guess for you CottonBranchRacing
trickedcarbine
Definitely not 6 HD springs, maybe 18-20 grams an arm if it's just a 6 finger.
10milmike
I know some with a 18DM setting records in 300' running all 6 stock springs. It's all about your secondary weight and air gap. Etc. It's takes a lot to figure out what works with your set up. So go test and tune like the rest of us. J-Madd
I just threw whatever springs and weights i had laying around the shop on my 16 Mil. I agree get some baseline passes, and get the gearing figured out first. I like to gear a motor like that to about 87 - 89 mph at the traps at peak hp rpm, or in the overrev a tad. With those tires, you may have to gear it lower though. I have some tires like that that I never could get to work.
Timshee
Right or wrong bike went 3.59 16/45 with 13/17gr staggered with 6hd springs
J-Madd
Thats not a bad time at all. Especially depending on the how hard the track hooks.
Timshee
It was at Gilbert so track was very good
trickedcarbine
That's pretty bitchin^ try same setup&track with more weight. Then less weight. Then go back to the original weight and make a spring change. Make runs with more weight, as well as runs with less weight. See how the bike reacts to each little change individually. If you can make passes on all those changes in one day, it really helps to get a grasp on what does what. Then start playing with tires and gearing. Some times you just know if it's geared way wrong or tired way wrong and those might be worth changing first.

10milmike
Get a note book. And write down what ever changes you make. Its the same for asphalt that we do. Sometimes you make a change thinking your smart and it hurts your e.t. That's why baseline is very important. You really need to get a valve spring tester and test your springs. Just throwing in springs is the old school way. It's work. But you have no real idea were to make improvements. Baseline, base prussure and arm weight in that order. What 60'foot are you running? Timshee
When it run the 3.59 it was at gator nationals on another frame, I bought motor from by buddy and put it on my black label they never messed with the clutch I thought base pressure seemed high and arm weight was low just see everyone's opinions
10milmike
I think 6 HD springs at 75 lbs per spring is way to much base prussure.
