trickedcarbine
I have been doing some weird stuff with the ice bike and need slip later in the power in 3rd, yet still have enough lock up early to get the hole shot. A guy I know offered to let me run his Mattoon time loc while his bike is down for the winter, but everything about the way those work is pretty opposite of what I wanna do. So looking for a hays multi stage. Any one looking to ditch one or know who's got a good price on them?
shanYE west
have you checked on direct drives time release lock up?
SOUTHTHIRTY
Sounds like u need a recluse clutch
n2otoofast4u
Tricked I think Tedder was looking to sell one of his multi stage units. Might fire him a PM. That being said, Ive spent some time with the time loc. (CP makes it) and its an interesting adventure for sure.
shanYE west
green, are you familiar with the piece that Direct drive makes?
n2otoofast4u
green, are you familiar with the piece that Direct drive makes? Not theirs directly, but I believe braveandcrazy (Brad) on here built, or bought on similar to that a few years back that I played with and messed with in Gilbert awhile back. If it wasnt him then I forget but regardless, there was some issues with springs coming off of the one we were facking with. BUT if that issue could be resolved I think its a simplistic option that might be good for the small motor stuff.
shanYE west
define smaller motor..
trickedcarbine
Sounds like u need a recluse clutchNot really. I'm not worried about engine braking and all that jazz. I have been using the lock up to allow the clutch to slip till the bike gets on to the pipe coming out of the turns on shorter tracks. Think in terms of how an average snowmo gets clutched. They rev right to the meat of available power then grab. Its cooky for sure. Especially on a 2 stroke quad. It took lots of trial and error to find the sweet spot for each size track. It's also meant torched clutches since I'm making it slip where everyone else wants it to be locked. I've kinda hit this point where getting it to slip out of the turns means a bit to much slip on the hole shot though. Hoping something like a multi stage may be adaptable. n2otoofast4u
define smaller motor.. I should have maybe stated that as a well "sorted" motor. Its really hard to run the huge motors (4cylds, big triples, huge twins) with a "odd setup" and see any legitemate gains, or losses if the bike is still in its infancy and not having a good grasp on "what" it should be doing. When Mattoon had his 4 cyld setup with the time loc he was battling other issues at the same time as trying to figure out other things. IMO its FAR easier to try new setups on a bike that is well sorted and it will "normally" make multiple passes without worry of wrecking thousands in parts. I know Arlo messed with the time loc on his scimi and said he thought it worked but he also didnt run it for too long. Tim has messed with the time loc more than most Id guess at this point and if you were going to fish for info hes probably the one you would want to hound for info. I didnt like it because of all the bleeding and bs you need to do after you change the "jet" each time, and the clutch cover to run it is kinda goofy. Does it work? Im sure it does. The DD style would be fun to play with. Different spring sizes, lengths, etc. The more I think about it, I think the one I was playing with had springs that went from arm to arm, but I cant remember for sure.
