trickedcarbine
So, after putting the bike on new Hoosiers and snapping the DID 520VM, I decided to look in to a 530 set up. My current set up is 15/39 and I'd like to keep it that way, maybe even go 15/38. After searching and asking around, it seems that the consensus is that I should only swap the Chain and front sprocket to 530. Does that sound legit? I don't mind paying more for the Rear to. I know the 39 rear is tight as it is on a 6 bolt banshee hub, so I definitely get that I will need to do a Honda style hub if I wanna go 38 rear. Any thoughts? I heave heard so many conflicting stories whether the 530 rear is to tight on the hub, or off sets the chain. Should I just get a chain and front sprocket, or just do everything? Sprockets will be PBI, chain might be an RK.
shanYE west
did you cryo treat your chain?
Nightmare
I'm in in the process of doing the same thing but I was told to do all 3. Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
trickedcarbine
did you cryo treat your chain?Negative???? Aside from the rubber I rings being ruined in the Cryo process, wouldn't that make a chain to brittle?
shanYE west
whats the pro's and cons of a 520 vs a 530? I remember a dyno a long time ago on 520 vs 530. Reason I ask.. for your motor.. wouldn't the con's out weigh the pro's?

locogato11283
There is no way you're making enough power to warrant a 530 setup. We are making 140HP and landing hard off jumps with 520 chains.. You just need the right setup. Call Redline and tell Cam you want the Western Powersports chain that we run. It has a thicker side plate than a regular 520 chain. Run PBI front sprocket and Primary Drive rears. You also need to check and see if you're motor is twisting in the frame. That will also cause chain issues. If so, maybe it's time for a Chariot bearing support and one of my motor supports. Before I discovered the motor twisting in the frame I was running 530 stuff. It's way heavier than 520. Once I figured out the motor problem, I went back to 520 and have had zero issues since.
shanYE west
^ Thats what I was getting at just a lil bit more straight forward. on a side note.. A 525 chain is only 1.7mm wider then a 520.. but a 530 chain is nearly 3mm wider then a 520.. You "should" be able to use a 525 chain with 520 sprockets... they would just ride a tad lower on the sprocket.. I wouldn't trust a 530 chain on 520 sprockets.. thats just too wide. Typically a 525 chain will be about 1500#'s more tensile str. Just my take on that. But as Tyler mention.. I dont see a need for a 530 chain. There has to me some other issue. I've only broke one chain and I was 100% at fault.
trickedcarbine
I have added engine dampers to all 4 corners, and made solid mounts for the under side. I may be able to get my hands on a Packard bearing support for cheap. I wonder I that engine stay from Loco/JDS will work on it. Between the studs on ice and Hoosiers on asphalt, this thing sees lots of load so no doubt it could be twisting.

Get them both and be done with it. It eliminated all my issues. Then get the WP chain and be done with that.
shanYE west
good way to check twist is to pinch the top and bottom chain together about half way back.. you should see the engine twist. I would get a chariot stator cover without the bearing support (no bearing and special nut) and use Tyler's style support.. Save you some money over the packard.
