garddogg36 Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 I picked up an 03 banshee, fresh rebuild.. guy shattered piston.. im guessing from running lean.. it had 260 mains, 25 pilots.. I went to a 300 main and a 30 pilot.. and im still getting lean condition.. greyish tan plugs.. more dark grey than tan.. funning bike runs great.. it has platinum pipes, pro circuit 304 silencers, v force reeds, no air box lid.. I just ordered 320 mains and 340's... my first banshee.. hoping for some insight.. I don't wanna mess up a new rebuild poking in the dark Quote
Larry's Shee Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Usually pistons shatter from piston slap/worn hoe. Hopefully you have fresh bore. Have you leakdown tested it? Plug chop/read confirms lean condition? Quote
Motooutcastxxx Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 What he said ^^ Leakdown test for sure! 320's seem awfully large for that set up, probably wouldn't hurt to bump up the pilot a size as well. Quote
Motooutcastxxx Posted June 3, 2014 Report Posted June 3, 2014 Scratch the pilot, I didn't see you threw in a 30 already... Quote
garddogg36 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Report Posted June 3, 2014 yea thanks for replies.... its a toss up.. some people with similar set ups are running 290 jets and 25 pilots.. some run 320 mains and 27.5 mains.. so im kinda of poking in the dark here... the guy that had before me was running way too lean.. was on his 3rd rebuild.. burning up pistons.. I emailed pro circuit and they suggested 260 mains and 25 pilots and needle 2nd positon.. at sea level.. but that was lean.. I really don't wanna mess up fresh bore and pistons.. im at 1076 ft sea level.. this is my first banshee so looking for some experience.. I have 300 mains and 30 pilot in it now.. needle on middle position and plugs had a greyish tan color.. needle to 2nd position and the plugs were dark grey... im going to do some more plug chops.. waiting on 320 and 340 jets to come.. garddogg36 Posted June 3, 2014 Author Report Posted June 3, 2014 what jets ,set up and needle position you guys running in yours? Quote
Larry's Shee Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 So you have fres/new bores and pistons? Forged? Have you done a leakdown test? Reason for skipping 310 and 330 sizes? While all engine/setups are simular each can be different and require richer or leaner jetting. Unported 4mil, FMF signature pipes, Vito's dual stage, Weiscos, 300m, 27.5p, middle clip, 1.5 turns (?) garddogg36 Posted June 4, 2014 Author Report Posted June 4, 2014 yes fresh rebuild.. stock pistons, just a compression test.. it starts one kick, runs great.. but plugs are showing lean.. Quote
Motooutcastxxx Posted June 4, 2014 Report Posted June 4, 2014 Buy this; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Banshee-Two-Stroke-2-Stroke-Leak-Down-Tester-/291161675220?pt=Motors_ATV_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43ca9695d4&vxp=mtr Or make one; http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=110585 Extremely important to make sure there's no air leaks.. Do a leakdown test ASAP! I wouldn't even run a freshly built motor without doing one. Mine; Stock cylinder stock stroke w/ MX Port, DMC 916's, Chariot reed cages with Boyesen dual stage reeds, Stock head milled from F.A.S.T, Timing advanced +4, and UNI pods. 320 Mains, 27.5 Pilot, Clip - middle, 1.5 turns: ran pretty rich with this but ran fine other than that, looking to get it dialed in here shortly. I'm only a hair above sea level by the way. There's always this too as a reference; http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=99361 Quote
garddogg36 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 ok.. got it.. 320 mains, 30 pilot, needled 4th postion.. good throttle.. mid and top end .. a little on the rich side.. but not fouling plugs or loading up... rather be safe than sorry.. had it rippin around today.. think ill leave it there.. thanks for the comments Quote
garddogg36 Posted June 6, 2014 Author Report Posted June 6, 2014 1 other question.. I see they don't make stock front shock bushings... I didn't have time to look at it today.. but they got some play in them.. anyone have any tricks shimming them or anything.. Quote
garddogg36 Posted June 7, 2014 Author Report Posted June 7, 2014 what fuel mix ratio is everyone running? Quote
ryanrogers Posted June 9, 2014 Report Posted June 9, 2014 i have the same pipes with k and n pods and 300 mains and 30 pilots in it right now but it is rich all the way through Quote
