turbowrenchhead
google "how to build a leak down tester" Once you have it built then you apply 7psi to the crank case. It should hold that pressure for 20 mins. If it doesn't then you know you have a leak. You spray the seals and gaskets with a soapy water mix. The leak will create bubbles. Whala! there is your leak. I have had leaks between the case halfs and the reed/intake boot gaskets. Edited May 17, 2014 by turbowrenchhead
sstaton1983
Check compression, the side with a hole in the piston will be the side the leaks on...do the leak down test to see if it passes, when it don't pass then you pull the side covers off so you can see the crank seals..pressure up to 6 psi and spray soapy water then look for bubbles. sheebad1990
Could I turn a compression test into a leak tester?
sheebad1990
Oh One more thing do I have to split the motor to replace crank seal if that's the issue. But I have lost any oil. Thanks for advice.
bigweav81
yeah you have to split them, but ive read where guys leave the top end bolted on, and split the cases removing bottom case half only. heard its a little tricky to put back together. a leak down test is cheap to build, or you can buy a cheap home built leak down test off ebay for 30 bucks. turbowrenchhead
I haven't had one seal up with just gaskets yet! I always have to silicone both side of the gasket with Yamahabond.
