turbowrenchhead
So last year I went 3 rounds with GT Thunder with my rear shock. I did there spec sheet and was very specific that I wanted a higher stance in the rear. They sent it back with over a $300 bill and said that the original shaft was bent which was probably a line of bs. It looked like a low rider with me sitting on it. Long story short. I sent it back twice and all they did was put a heavier and then heavier spring in it. Now there is a 500 pound spring it it. Its horrible on washboards. I've adjusted the settings for the best ride and it still sucks! I tell them its still not right they say that I need a longer shaft. I was new to this and I had no idea. Why wouldn't they bring that up in the first place is my question? So I'm real put off GT Thunder..... I have a ride in 2 weeks and I want to get the rear shock right before I go. I'll be riding with some fast sport quads and I want it to ride nice. Any suggestions guys?
n2otoofast4u
Should have used that CS Matt the first time. Are you using a factory shock? Many will tell you that the oem one is great with some work. I say fuck that! Depending in budget I'd get yourself setup with a works ultracross or an Elka. turbowrenchhead
Elka or works is not in the budget. I'm sure one of their shocks will run over $
possum
theres 2 springs I use, stock and spacer it up for adjustment. and a stiffer spring for +8 arm or longer. These shock places are worthless sometimes. they are just throwin springs at it from an uneducated guess. I have real world testing on several bikes and weight riders. WINDYCITYJOHN400
I've had 2 shocks that House of Horsepower did. (The bike I had on the Badlands trip has one) +6 arm and I rip the sand whoops everywhere I go. Can't say I would need anything better. (NOTE: I have a full set of ELKA's on one of my bikes and my House or Horsepower modded stocker is comparable.)

turbowrenchhead
GT thunder is closed for the time being too... the owner and his wife passed away in a plane crash last month or 2 months ago. dont know why you would want to raise your rear end. ride height can be adjusted by the top collar to an extent. I spent about 450 in my stock rear to get entirely re valved and re specd to my set up. its plush and rides damn nice... even matt SC told me if you can get the stock rear done up for a decent price do it (450 is a lot but got it done local).. the only big difference from what I remember him saying was oil flow rate was a couple % better in the after market shocks vs the stocker... the adjustments would be a touch better on the aftermarket as well... but a stock rebuilt a-z 400 ish bucks... aftermarket brand new... 800 ish bucks and in some cases you dont get any adjustments like the stock one... MOST avg riders shouldnt notice much of a difference if both are properly set up. The stock rear has all the adjustment options you need.. if you cheap out on a aftermarket rear odds are your going to get a non adjustable one I want a higher ride height because the rear is very saggy when I sit on it. I can't raise it up with the collar because there is a 500 pd spring in it now and its way to stiff with it in the longest setting.

turbowrenchhead
go on a diet, your quad will not sag as much. I weigh 200 pds. If I lost more weight I wouldn't look like much.
sprinklerman
You shouldn't be having these problems at 200 lbs on a stock swinger. Sent from a van down by the river
possum
If it sags to far, you dont need a longer shock. you need a stiffer spring. You say it sags to far with a 500lb spring? somethings not right. I have gotten away with a stock spring on arms up to +8 majority of the time at 200lbs. sprinklerman
I'm 200 lbs and I can't bottom out a stock shock on a stock swingarm on anything short of an MX track. Trails and woods....I can't see it. Something sounds wrong . Sent from a van down by the river

Well I can't do all his heavy lifting. You can lead a horse to water...but if it won't drink.....then maybe that animal is a mule.
turbowrenchhead
I talked to Richard today for about 20 mins. He was very informative and great to talk to. He had me do some measurements while on the phone with him and he concluded that there is something wrong with the shock. The rebound knob doesn't click when you turn it. So right there it needs attention. I'll be sending it out just as soon as I can get it off the bike.
