Try making less than 20 a year.........

Been there,...still ain't making a whole hell of a lot more than that. I get jewed here by about 30k a year for what all I do...but it's a job & I have insurance & benifits, PTO & Paid holidays. So I can't gripe...hard to find a job with insurance anymore unless you have a bachelors or better. <_< I'll have my own business before too long, be my own boss, make what I want to work for, and work my own hours....then....life will be good. ;)

The 450's are around 6700 I think. As far as clothing, it's up to you. A lot of people just buy the basics like helmet, gloves and some safety gear. Then they just wear jeans to ride. Others like to wear the full gear. As far a quality of riding gear... it's all pretty close to the same. Mostly loyalty to a brand and looks.

It dont matter much what u wear when ur ridin, just make sure it covers u. Boots a have saved me many times. And ive been tru many pares of pants from burnin them on hte pipes. Its worth it. I used to ride fox, but then everybody started that too, so i switched to Shift. a side sompany of fox, but they make free ride pants, i love them. Ive done thor and answer too, its all up to u. My ? is, is this guy worth all of this, i mean i wouldnt give it up for the world, but it takes a lot of money to play(I bet other guys can agree). This is veryexpensive, and u need to decide if ur here for urself or just to impress this guy. I know if i were him, i would be happy to just hear that u were into this and wanted to buy and learn. I would help u pay for it.(if u were my g/f that is). Have fun and be safe. But take ur time b4 u just buy something.

lol!!! I agree about the whole money thing!!!! This is one helluva expensive hobby!!! When I bought by quad and first started riding, I bought the basics....but then I started racing MX right away, so I geared up and bought EVERYTHING!!!! Trial and error - every time I crashed I bought some more gear, too! Helmet is always first and foremost - don't go cheap, either. You pay for what you get, and I have seen some helmets that I thought were actually pretty nice ones just shatter and cause even more damage than there should have been. SNELL and DOT approved are a good start! I prefer Shoei.

My first pair of boots were Alpinestar Tech 6's.....but after running over my own foot a couple of times, I upgraded to Tech 8's! :) (nerf bars are a REALLY good idea, btw!) Alpinestars feel like ski boots, but they will protect your feet and ankles like no other boot out there!!!

Jerseys are great, because they help keep you the right temperature and don't get your nice clothes all messed up......race pants are great because wearing jeans and Tech 8's sucks!!! I love SHIFT freestyle gear - super comfy and easy to wear. Plus pants keep the pipes from burning your legs from just riding or crashing - getting stuck under a hot Banshee with just regular pants on would really be painful!

I also wear a chest protector - I have a few "modifications" up top, and I have to be sure to protect them as much as possible, but I would recommend a good chest protector to anyone who does any type of aggressive riding. I have crashed many times in races or practice and crashed hard with my chest protector on, and got up and finished the race because of it!!! They are awesome in a crash!!! I have managed to land ahead of my quad before and have it nail me right in the back, and the chest protector saved my spine....And they keep roost off of you......;)

Gloves are a must - you will get major blisters anyway at first, but gloves delay that quite a bit! :) And if you do any type of trail riding, they will save your knuckles from getting all scratched up or roost from banging them.

I also wear a kidney belt - anyone who has ridden on a really rough road for any length of time can probably tell you exactly where his/her kidneys are located just from feeling them jiggling around!!! A kidney belt will help support your lower back if you like to stand up alot while riding, and it will keep your kidneys from falling out!! :)

Goggles of course.....no brainer. Eyes are important!

Now - if you just plan on putting around in the sand dunes, you can probably get away with what most of the girls at the dunes who putt around wear - just street clothes and shoes or a bikini! I wouldn't do it - it's not that I'd be afraid of crashing or roost or anything like that (Except when drag racing!) - it's the pre-runner that doesn't see me and hits me at 50 miles an hour that I would want some protection from!!! It's other people/quads/dirt bikes you have to be careful of out there......

mmmmmm.....well - now if you add all of that up, you have already spend a ton of money, and haven't even gotten a quad yet!!! But I say if you are going to do it - do it right! :D

Yeah, i know its alot of money, i am going to stop buying things i don't need, and things for my baby (my truck i am also going to stop uying for :( ) I have saved about 200 already and not even for a month. So, i should have enough. But the yamaha is alot of money! DAMN lol, but i would rather have the best then buy a cheap one and die on it, ya know?! I'm in it to impress him, and I also want to start this 'hobbie' up, like i said, i know money is a big thing in this, but i think i can handle some of it, I mean if not, then i will save up all the money i got! lol. Yeah, about the gear, Yeah, i kow FOX is big, and i was going t buy throught them, and i have heard of Thor because he wears it too (well, when he wants to wear clothes that is lol) and i have never heard of the other one. but like you all say, I'm learning, and its fun!! lol But i will probably by the gear first, then the machine. Thanks a bunch again you guys/girls!

if you wanna save some $$$ and still get around pretty decent; get a used blaster for like $2500 and buy some basic gear (hjc helmet, fox boots, etc.)

I'm not like that at all! If I'm gonna get something, I want the best (or pretty close to it) the banshee that I have is for my girlfriend, and we spend lots of money on that thing (it gets expensive). and she's not too agressive, I mean she'll hang and ride good, but she isn't trying to jump 60ft doubles or anything! the main reasone I mod that thing up, is incase I ever wanna ride it :P . I ride my CR250, but the banshee is always fun too!
