DlyDragger
I should start by saying "Hi" and thanks for letting me join your forums. Tons of great info around here. I've been lurking for a while but this is my first time posting. Ok, now onto my problem. I decided to trade my dirt bike and get another Banshee. I found one that just had the engine professionally rebuilt but but all the rest of the assembly was done by the owner. It fires up first kick and it's in pretty good condition, the only issue was that it bogged down pretty heavy until 1/2 throttle. I've done some basic carb work on my dirtbikes so I figured it should be an easy fix. I got it home and fired it up again, still fired right up but also still bogged on the throttle. I started to tear into it today and the carb slides were in backwards and it had no idle screws! I took care of the slides, ordered idle screws, resync'd (by window) and tried starting it... Nothing.. I messed with the airscrew (backed out half turn at a time) and still nothing. I'm assuming it's not going to be anything too major but just looking for some ideas on where to start. I'm still kind of in shock that it idled like it did with the slides backwards honestly. Here's what I know for sure right now. .030 over piston Toomey T5's K&N pods 320 main jet Needle 4th clip from top Got nice blue spark Plug was damp w/ fuel but not soaked I haven't gotten the idle screws yet so right now it's relying on the cable (I know, that doesn't help matters). I don't know what size pilots it's has and I'm assuming that may be a big part of the problem. Just want to get some thoughts from you gentlemen on where I should start. Any help would be appreciated.
m671054
Choke tube connected? Tors installed?
hoppedupandcutdown
Do a leak down test. I'd think if it idles with the slides in backwards it was sucking air from some place it isn't supposed to.
DlyDragger
Choke tube is connected. TORS has been removed.
DlyDragger
Do a leak down test. I'd think if it idles with the slides in backwards it was sucking air from some place it isn't supposed to. I wasn't sure about that part. It wasn't immediately obvious looking into the carbs that they were backwards. The cable was adjusted so that the slides were open around 1/4" (but in backwards). What he had going on (and actually somewhat working) was beyond me. I might have to pick up a few things and do a leak down test. I was just hoping maybe this guy got lucky and somehow made it run that way.
DlyDragger
I got it!!! I did the leak down test and it checked out. Tore into the carbs again and recleaned. As I was putting it back together I noticed gunk built up where the slide sits. I'm guessing that since the moron I got it from was running it with the slides switched, it had time to get some build up. Got it all cleaned out really well and it fired up. Still got some fine tuning to do but it's progress at least.
