Banny&RappyGuy
HI ALL,, Just spent the winter rebuilding my banshee.POWDER COATED everything that could be done and put all new bearings seals ect. didnt do much to the motor except advanced the timing, shift star mod and new reed petals. my issue is now is it wont start as easy or nice as it used to. Cleaned the carbs and adjusted the float so it doesnt leak out the overflow anymore. the issue is getting gas i think.I Can choke and kick the guts out of her but it wont start. if i put a little gas in the head then it starts right up and runs like a top and stays running. it'll fire up first kick after that, but if it sits for any length of time it seems to do the same thing. I took the plugs out to see what they look like and after sitting and trying to start again they seem dry with no fuel getting there. Anybody know why what my problem may be. it runs really nice after i get it going just wont start right away like she used to. any help would be great

uman1030
Did you do a leakdown test? Reed gaskets may be leaking after replacing the reeds causing an air leak, making it hard to start.
Banny&RappyGuy
gaskets were in great shape, it seems like its not getting fuel until i run it. i can put a few drops in the head and it'll start right up and stay running. Just wondering why it's not getting fuel right from the get go?? it runs pretty much perfect after i get it running but it's a pain
uman1030
Any time you rebuild a motor(or replace gaskets) you should do a leak down test.If you haven't done this and your experiencing running problems already then your just risking blowing your top end. Do a leak down test and also a compression test. Air leaks and low compression can cause it to be hard to start cause it wont draw enough fuel into the engine when kicking it over. Leakdown test Compression test Clean carburetors, REMOVE jets and clean them and write down what jets you have installed.(this will help if its a carburetor issue)
Larry's Shee
Did you soak carbs, just a quick douche and call it good?
Banny&RappyGuy
I cleaned the carbs good, took everything apart and cleaned them with carb cleaner and compressed air! To do leak down test on a banshee do you do both sides at once or can you do one side at a time? Never done one on a twin before!
uman1030
I cleaned the carbs good, took everything apart and cleaned them with carb cleaner and compressed air! To do leak down test on a banshee do you do both sides at once or can you do one side at a time? Never done one on a twin before! You do both cylinders at once by sealing both exhaust ports and one intake then clamp your leakdown tester into the open intake boot and clamp id down. then compressed air is used to pressurize the engine to ONLY 6lbs and it should be able to hold that pressure for 6 minutes Here are a couple of threads that show how to make one yourself but you can also usually get one from ebay or a member on here. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=110585&p=961759 http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=49835&p=409620
Banny&RappyGuy
Ok, did a leak down test and it passed. Carbs were cleaned again and everything is good externally. Now I guess I need to know what's next? Did a compression test as well and they are both 105 cold.( a bit low but don't think this is part of my issue) put it back together and still won't start. If I put a little gas in the head and it starts right up, and keeps starting every time once it's warmed up. Is there a seal or something inside that could be causing my starting issue??? NEED HELP:( it's almost riding season here in cold ass canada!! Thanks all , hope I can get this figured out
uman1030
What is your jetting at. pilot/clip/main. Bowls switched? Guessing stock carbs.. ↑↑ this? When you cleaned the carbs did you put the appropriate bowl back onto the appropriate carb? One bowl has a copper tube which goes on to the carb that has the choke plunger. Banny&RappyGuy
Yup, cleaned one carb at a time! I'm running 300/30 I think the needle is in the 1st or 2nd position. It's just weird that it was fine until I did this work but I didn't really do anything to the motor or carbs! What else could it be. Why does it run good once I get her going? Banny&RappyGuy
Is there seals inside that could be bad?? I'm So confused as to what's going on! Lol I had it running last night for quite a while, shut it off and started first kick a dozen times after it was warmed up. Tried to start her up this morning to drive to work:) and nothing!! What the Hell! Lol
