Why So Many Moderators ?

i dont see a problem with the mod as long as he's not being judge and jury, i can see getting blocked from callin someone a moron while next door we have 8 pages of AOL chat over being a foxy cheerleader babe, i think all the BS should be moved to some chat room somewhere, theres about ten guys left on the HQ that know what there talking about, the rest of the posts are getting pretty moronic, when we get down to 5 i'll be a ghost as well.......

i think they should have kept the mods i d `s a secret.just let them do their job in private.no one would have known the difference.post deleted, moved to where they should be.everyone would have just thought lee was on it.buisness as usual.like before. no ego`s in the way.

i gotta agree with NYUK, but Boons pretty mature about what his role's to be and actually has proven helpfull as is his banshee advice, and Lee cant do it all, so it has to be someone, might as well be Boon, i know i wouldnt want the extra burden added to my visists to the HQ.......time will tell......his role should be kept on the downlow.....but remember big brother is watching, if we start getting PM'ed about our opnions, crass as they may be, thats when the sittin around shootin the shit feel will be gone.....

Zen Master Wheatchex!!! Where you been lurking man??? Good points on the mods.

I for one, doubt that I will "moderate" much in the forums I'm leading, other than if a really bad picture gets put up or some little shit posts a bunch of nonsense like we've all seen before. If someone asks "How do I fix xxxxx" In the riding and events forum, of course I'll move it to the Repairs. Other than that, I'm here to learn just like the rest of the moderators are.

Boonman, hope you didn't miss understand, For now the mods are cool. I was saying it has the "potential" to become that kind of environment. I think alot of us are looking down the road at this site, so we're trying to do some preventive maintenance before it becomes BT. These types of threads are great cause its almost like voting, you get to voice your opinion on the way you'de like to see things run. If it doesn't turn out the way you'd liked then hey thats life and at least you've expressed your opinion. This is at least how I feel about the whole deal. Maybe others have larger concerns.

No misunderstandings at al Mcaf and Chase. I know exactly how you guys feel. Because I feel the same way!!! :) I don't want to see the site take a dump because of this either. All I am saying is that I have seen it work with the right people on other sites, and it doesn't work when you have the wrong people, like BT, and other places we won't mention. I hope that Lee will remove a Mod should him or her get the God complex. It's not fair to anyone else when that happens, and it only ruins the site. I think Lee knows what he's doing, and will watch for it... Putting someone in a position that affords some sort of "special powers" that be is bad enough. And when that person let's it go to their heads, and playing God, that's a VERY bad thing. It is my feeling that these tools available can be put to good use. There isn't much moderation that needs to be done on here. it is a self governed site primarily. So when people start doing stuff just for the helluvit, it will ruin it for everyone. I see the point there. I just hope it never comes to that. I hope everyone comes forward with there questions or comments on this matter right away, before they get mad for something they not be mad at right now....

Thats one good thing about this site, I feel it will self govern itself. And mainly what I've been writing in this topic is what I'd want and not want from moderators, and I feel a lot of the other posts have been the same.

I have nothing against this site being moderated, I'm all for it, and it will create a smoother running, more efficient banshee site, if moderated correctly. I've been to other sites like the ramcharger one your talking about boon, and agree it can be controlled very well. I'm all for what your saying, and how you feel about being a moderator, and what you feel your obligations should be.

Screamin, I'm not saying you shouldnt be a moderator, but think of yourself as an elected official. The stop your crying reply, and doing some "tests" cleaning out the general discussion forum are just things we dont need from mods. We're trying to voice our opinions of how we feel this site should be moderated.....and all you do is take it as crying about having moderators. You cant think for yourself anymore, you have to think for a body of members. If a topic is junk, or post is junk, like some stupid chick peeing ten feet, sure.....you might not like it, but us dumb shits that have been working for the last 13 hours and just want to have a chuckle might get some amusement out of it. I say if its out of the ordinary, leave it......if its just some porn flick thrown up on the forum.....delete it. Know what I'm getting at?

I think this site will do well, and if a moderator does something someone doesnt like, it will be addressed, and dealt with. And if it has to go to supreme court (lee) thats where it will go.

I know exactly what everyone has been stating on this thread, but just because I'm a mod doesn't mean i can no longer voice my opinion like any other member. Sorry you took a bit of offense at my crybaby remark, it was directed more towards chase, not you or anyone else. You simply voiced your opinion, along with others, and I voiced mine, nothing more.

I do, however, feel that chase is on a mission to tear apart what Lee has tried to accomplish, and for that, my OPINION of him is nothing more than a crybaby. Just because I have that opinion of him doesn't mean I'm going to go around deleteing his posts or threads... I'm above that type of behavior. Now the second the members start treating any mods differently than they did when they weren't listed on a mod team, then I believe that's when the feared topic of egotistical mod comes into play. My thought is that's exactly what chase is trying to do, test the mods so to speak. Big deal... I don't care what chase said about me, nor do I care about what anyone else said about me or any of the other mods. I blow it off and keep filtering through the threads making sure they're up to par and in the right category where they'll get the most assistance from.

I still can't see why everyone's getting hung up on what I said about 'testing' some things out... I mean damn.... i moved some repair threads to the repair section, and deleted an outwar posts. I have never in my life liked to be in a 'position of power' so to speak, because it does cause some problems. But like I stated before, I don't see being a mod as having power over anyone else, I look at it more along the lines of doing my part to help out since I don't have much mechanical knowledge as I'd like to. I'm still learning from this site as are 90% of the members.

Point being... don't start hating a mod because they voiced their opinion just like they have before obtaining mod status... that's just childish. If you don't like what someone said when they voiced their opinion, deal with it however, but don't try to drag others down because of it, and do it in an adult like manner... not useless whining.

Just MY (long term member of this site) 2 cents worth... take it, or get a refund and go on with your life.

i know exactly how you guys feel. but i like to also come home from work and hit the suprise link to a chick peeing 10 feet and get my laugh on. i for one believe that if someone steps out of place (nuyk is annoying) then the reply that nuyk made back on the tire situation is fine with me. im still not sure what a mod is supposed to do and i dont come here to put anyone in their place i just do it to learn and teach and have fun. so mabey im not the one who should of got the mod job because of this, you guys have read my posts and answers to questions. i aint here to feed anyone a line of bs and steer them in the wrong direction or police them. ever since this mod thing took affect i dont even feel like answering questions or posting anymore. mabey its just me being me wanting to tell someone to "f" off when they do stupid stuff on here but now i feel i cant. just a thought from my head at the moment. later

Evil:

heheh I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as I did

I was part of the team over at atvsource.com when they first started out. As a mod in their chat room and in their BBS. There is no way to make everyone happy. After a short period of time many of the origional mods were "relieved" of their command for turning things into a downward spiral.

i dont even feel like answering questions or posting anymore. mabey its just me being me wanting to tell someone to "f" off when they do stupid stuff ..........

That is a natural feeling, but you have to remember your now someone that people will look up too for guidance and support. There is a great deal of info found here within a select few people that truely enjoy supporting this site as if it was theirs. You dont have to have all the answers, so dont think that you have too.

Not that we have always seen eye to eye, but your 100% correct. The identities of the mods should have been kept hidden. Let them do their jobs in secret. I know I look at things I post a little different, but I have always been known to "push the envelope" thus my post in the images. Everyone needs to know what their limits are.

Im not sure if anyone else has noticed, but I have... This site has become very quiet so to speak. I hope the site doesnt lose that warm cozy feeling

hummmm C'mon screamin that's diggin a little deep making accusations like that it made absolutely no sense !!! are you retaliating against me because I have voiced my opinion on the moderating situation ? I started this topic to let everyone voice their opinions on the moderator issue and you get scared and pull the bullshit card by saying I am on a mission to tear apart HQ. Did I hurt your feeling's?

Sorry you took a bit of offense at my crybaby remark, it was directed more towards chase, not you or anyone else.

This is the perfect axample of a PUBLIC forum at it's best. When you have a forum {definition: a medium of open discussion} that is open with simple rules, the forum will tend to be self governing because everyone appreciates 2 things

1- No-one knows eveything.

2- You can learn something by listening to others.

The sole purpose of a moderator {defined also as a mediator which is "one who works with opposing sides in order to resolve a dispute or bring about a settlement"} should be to correct, direct, and only after showing a lack of appreciation for the forum and it's principles, discipline the participants.

A moderator should only delete words or expressions that are blatantly outside the general rules of the forum. In this case, there are no doubt certain laws that need to be followed. I would suggest that racism, sexism, expressions that promote hate, the exploitation of children, and the use of hard core pornography would be legally regulated and thus would merit IMMEDIATE deletion and censure of the person{s} involved.

Beyond that, we don't need a moderator. Afterall, if a moderator needs to be notified of something, there is a link on each page that can be used for just that purpose.

For the above purposes, a moderator should never have to identify him/her self. And instead of stifling the person's creativity, the moderator should give warnings to those who stray. Some one who put's a posting in each category may afterall be making a point. I did it once as a protest. We were told for months that image hosting would be available for our tech pics. Eventually I got tired of hearing the excuses and posted once in each heading that it was time to step up to the plate and provide it or tell us when it would REALLY be coming. It came shortly after that. Now I won't take credit for the implementation after my protest but I felt good about it and I think I unified some folks to ask the same questions.

If we're talking about using up space on some server somewhere, then say so. If that's the concern, then drop some of the redundant headings like one each for wanted, for sale, and trade. Obviously a complete waste of space.

All of that being said, I know that some here may appreciate what I've said and some won't, but the thing that's so great about it is we can still appreciate the forum as a place where it can be said.

damm thats right on check,370...i think i just busted screamin kinda "feelin His power" in a post

....."Cheerleading pic??? Send my way too, or post it.... need to preveiw it for content". .....

now granted its a chic, and i like screamin, but i think this is what MCAF is hittin on, i think we should have voted on who's to mod the site other than Lee, not that it really matters but 370's comment was so relevent to the feel of the site we went from drinking beers shootin the shit in my garage to having corprate meetings in the board room, for christ's sakes we are motorcycle riders not rocket scientist's.......
