Banshee reving high after going through water

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was riding some trails with a fair bit of water. I went through a puddle, maybe 6 inches of water at a decent speed. Maybe 15 mph. Right after the motor would Rev high on its own until I blipped the throttle and it would Rev down. This went of for an hour or so after I hit the puddle. Finally it pissed me off enough I just let it sit for a bit. Eventually it went away. I have the pod k&n filters with no air box. I'm thinking some water must have got into my carbs and we're causing them to stick. The only thing about that was I could hear the slides bottoming out. I have ordered a stock air box with k&n filter and outwear. Do you think this will resolve it. Has anyone had the same problem. Do banshees really not like water. I'm a trail rider and need to be able to go through a bit of water. Maybe not the quad of choice?

Why do people act like not liking water is a banshee specific problem. NO motor likes water. If your regular riding seems to have a fair bit of water I would definitely get an airbox on there. You can probably ditch the lid though and get the pro flo intake to go in the air box with an outer wear

Thats what I have ordered so hopefully it helps. I heard the stock carbs could be the culprit. Leaky caps possibly? I only ask because my fiancé owns a z400 and i take the thing through all kinds of water and never have any problems. Some people say Banshees are sport racing quads and shouldn't be taken through water. If thats the case I don't think a banshee is what I need. I love the power of them though

It's an air box without lid. Should be better right? There's no other issues with water and banshees?

The reason that there are so many "banshee" problems is because of its life span. It's the longest production quad. Everyone had a banshee. When it came out it was the most badass thing to hit the market. So you ditched the 3 wheelers and the 250s and got a banshee.

So now since it's been around so long, you have 15 year old kids that have only owned a 400ex telling you banshees don't like water, they are hard to tune, there temperamental, they don't like the cold and so on.

Like stated, start any motor, open the carb and just out of a mister bottle spray water into it. Sounds stupid right?

So tell me one motor that does like water.

Yeah I'm hoping the air box resolves the problem. The pods even with outerwear has to be the culprit. I don't ride in too much water but would like to be able to hit some without having the throttle getting stock wide open.

Airbox will fix it can't go through much water with pods

False. If the filter got that wet it would choke airflow and the motor would just bog…not free rev.

I've ridden down the entire River at the Badlands in Indiana with my pods and shaved front fenders.

You wanna ride your machine like it's a jet ski……go buy a grizzly or any 4-stroke sport quad. NOTE: All factory air box designs limit power to around the the peak 30's in HP.

If your bike makes any decent power….an air box just kills all it's potential.

The Airbox/Filter setup is just another of those lousy factory items you should all remove….like the entire TORS assembly, front brake disk guards, coolant overflow system, parking brake, factory swing arm and carrier, key, narrow front stance, front dumbo ear fenders and the fender braces, factory pipes, head, etc…..

I have had my carbs hang during water intake Ijs but yes it does normally just choke it , if you say the factory airbox should never be used try riding with pods when it's very wet... I run pods in dry no wet environment but if it's been raining I'm running a box limiting power is better than not riding at all I agree it's not preferred but sometimes we have no choice

I run pods.

I'll be at the Badlands HQ ride with them.

I'll ride everywhere.
