ringneckryan
Long story short I bought this 06 Banshee in pieces. The motor was in a bucket in pieces and total garbage. I bought a high performance engine and I put it all back together. It will fire up and idle, but as soon as I give it a 1/16th of an inch throttle it dies. Doesn't bog down and die, its like the coil was grounded out. I am not familiar with the TORS system but am pretty sure it is my problem. Anybody agree? What the heck do I do now? What is my fix? if it is any help at all I also noticed the brake light comes on briefly before it dies. Any chance I could have some connections on my wiring harness mixed up? It is a factory harness so I doubt that's likely...they kind of idiot proof that stuff so it can only go back together one way. Since I am in the mod section has anybody ever heard of Rockets in Quebec Canada? The jugs on this motor I got are blue and have ROCKETS scribed on them with a star or something... They do port jobs on 2 stroke jugs. The guy I bought it off of made a big deal out of them but I honestly have no clue. I just paid his asking price for the motor and left haha
uman1030
unplug tors box and disconect parking brakes switch.
ringneckryan
is the TORS box beside the coil under the fuel tank? where do I undo the park brake at? on the harness? these might be dumb questions but I have little banshee experience
uman1030
yes you are correct on location of Tors box. just unplug it and leave it unplugged that will kill any issues it causes. The parking brake switch is on the clutch lever, electrical wire plugs in to clutch lever. just unplug it.
ringneckryan
Thanks uman!! I will go do that now!
03DMshee
And best bet on park wire is to snip it out of harness all together...green wire with yellow stripe...if you can de pin the wire out of the CDI plug that would be best.... ringneckryan
I unhooked the TORS box and took out the plunger switch out of the emergency brake lever. Now the bike will rev, HOWEVER when I manually push the plunger with my finger it revs really high. It acts like it is the throttle. Very odd.... Whats the problem? uman1030
sounds odd, you should trace the switch down a foot or so and unplug it from the harness.
Starwriter
I'll take a stab at this. The TORS is what was causing it to die. The idle was cranked way up and it sorta idled on the park brake rev limiter. When you push the park brake switch, it turns off the rev limiter and it revs to the moon. As mentioned, get that green/yellow wire outta there and turn the idle screws down.
ringneckryan
idle screws..... Are they the big screw on the top of the TORS units on the carbs? I was playing with those to get the carbs synched. When I screw them either way you can see the slides moving. I just thought they were for synch/slide adjustment. Perhaps some instruction on proper TORS adjustment would be in order... I will unplug it from the harness.
uman1030
yep, that is the idle. turn them the exact same amount of turns each. I believe clockwise raises idle, counter clockwise lowers it. Although don't quote me it may be the reverse its been a long time since i had a set of those installed. ringneckryan
ok if that's the idle screw how do I synch the slides?
uman1030
You would either have to eyeball them or use a sync tool wich measure vacuum http://www.farmandsandtoys.com/partdetail.asp?partid=59.
