2001SSTBanshee
I did today!! I bought my 01 banshee on 2/19/01 form a dealer around here. Ive been riding it everywhere ever since. Adding mods all the time fixing stuff when it breaks etc. I never registered it or anything because there was no need to. In June of this yr one of my local riding areas made it to where you have to register your bike to ride (called Croom and owned by the state) Its not really my favorite place to ride so I wasnt in a hurry to go to the tag office and all of that bs, but finally today I went in there to do it. The guy behinnd the desk takes my bill of sale (all I have on the bike bacause when I bought it there were no titles on dirtbikes or atvs) and my license and goes in the back. About 5 minutes later he comes back and says "we got a problem" Im thinking "what does the state want from me now?" but he busts out with "your bike was reported stolen" Im was like yeah right I got it from a dealer, but he showed me a case # with my vin, reporting it stolen from another city in FL from about month before I bought it. SHIT So I go straight to the dealer and go to my boy in parts and he tells me that the same thing happened a couple months ago with another guy and his quad of some kind. Turns out the dealer had to but it back from the guy and it was ragged to hell. He brought me to the manager and we have to sort it out with the DMV in the morning. "see if it really is stolen" as he put it. BTW it was my buddy who told me about the other guy not the manager. DAMM!!! So what now? am I gonna be spending hours in the garage takin my stuff off and bringin them about 1/3 of a banshee? Wonder whats gonna happen in the morning????This is my banshee we're talkin about!!!! I cant believe the whole situation. BTW- my banshee was technically used when I bought it but looked new
bignasty1
man that sux balllllllllllllllllllllllllllz. they will get everything figured out. you either end up with a banshee that your were happy with or you end up with cash and a ass load of extras to put on the bike you buy later on. either way its shitty cuz u gotta take stuff off of it but things will work out. boonman
I have never had that happen, but I have woke up in the morning to find my bike gone. And been a very unhappy camper.

tats4life
Dude that sux's huge balls. The only thing I can say is strip the bike down of every single performance part you put on it. Hell if you had the cylinders bored or even head work done, take it off. And when you bring whats left back to the dealership and they start bitchin tell'em you'll give the stuff back to make it run when they repay you the money you put in it. Because it's there screw up not yours. The dealerships have insurance to cover screws like yours. If ya got a lawyer I'd give'em a call and explain the situation and find out what legal action you can take against the dealership. Because of there mistake you could have ended up in jail for have possesion of stolen property
2001SSTBanshee
I guess the cops are at the dealership right now. When I heard, I got worried that they might try to come here next to try to pick it up with all my stuff on it. I called my lawyer and he told me to show them my bill of sale and give them his card and NOT the bike. This is crazy.
BenBB
No title? My '96 has a title, and so did my old '86 TRX70. I did buy a 250R without a title once, luckily I sold it and the next owner had to shell out a couple hundred bucks to file for and get a lost title. Sounds like something's up with the dealer, hope you get it sorted out.

ledofthezep
Sounds like something's up with the dealer, hope you get it sorted out. I agree. I'd be on them like stink on shit 1st thing. They would be replacing the banshee or go to court & explain to a judge how they let a stolen bike get sold through their dealership for profit without a clean title. Don't worry man, you'll get it sorted out & most likely end up on top of the deal. That's just total bullshit. I'd tell them to make it right & if they don't it's their ass. 2001SSTBanshee
FL law- there were no titles on atv or dirtbikes untill june of 02. Im getting a complete refund for the banshee without all my parts!!!!
ledofthezep
Good to hear. Title or no title....it's still illegal to sell a stolen atv/bike, especially for profit. At least you're getting your money back!

2001SSTBanshee
Well, its done. I have the check right here, it says: deal #538 buyback from customer per stolen unit. pipes, nice ass nerfs w/footpegs that I never got to use, rear shock, axle, Hinson parts, DR clutch, sidewinder set, tm designworks pieces, Toomey radiator, plastics, handlebars and some more billet stuff are a few of the things I can remember taking off now. I have some before and after pics but I dont know how to post them. I cant believe its gone! At the dealer they said it will probably go to some impound lot and rot. I put rags in the motor to keep dirt out and everything too, thinking someone might actually get it back. Everybody here would be amused to see what I brought them and got all my money back. Lots people who worked there were laughing at how it looked. One guy sarcastically commented that I was slacking bacause there were still a lot of good parts on there. We set it on the ground and they took it off to the back on a forklift.
Cotton eyed Joe
No title? My '96 has a title, and so did my old '86 TRX70. Sounds like something's up with the dealer, hope you get it sorted out. I bought my frame from K&K atv, and it came with a bill of sale only. I then foolishly had it powdercoated (VIN was covered) and then about 4 months later decided it was time to get a title and possibly register it. I go through the hassle of getting issued a utah VIN since mine was powdered over, and after that 3 day ordeal was done, the woman at the register says "Ok, you paid $600 for the frame.....(she then calculates some stuff)...That will be $55 please.... And then she says....Why didn't you pay sales tax on this?.......I told her because I bought it online, and out of state...WAAAY out of state. She says...You bought it online? Oh well then its on 6$ for all this. $6!!!! Down from $55!!!!!! But what I want to know is, regardless if I bought it online or not, why the difference in price ?
