Who would you suggest for porting? 4 mill or port what would I see better Gaines from? Last question, are FMF FATTY pipes really that bad? I like'em, I think they sound nice.... But my friends dad says they suck... I would just like a couple diffrent responses. I like to do mostly trail riding and track riding and the occasional dune ride, And I don't really plan on going to a 4 mill any time soon if ever because from what I have seen that's quite spendy. (Yeah yeah I know performance comes at a cost bla blah blah.) The only "mods" done are FMF FATTY pipes with the stock silencer (I like the sleeper look) and I will be getting the k&n uni filter soon. Please no sarcasm or rude responses, I'm just trying to learn from people who obviously know more about this than me And if you could list good porters along the west coast that would be nice . sheerider11 Posted February 11, 2014 Report Share Posted February 11, 2014 Porting will get you the most power. My suggestion to you is just pull the entire motor and send it out in a big box. Call your builder of choice (I suggest you stroll through the site sponsors and take a few numbers down) Tell them what you want, where you ride, how you ride. They'll also follow up with a few questions. Come to an agreement on what you want. Pay. Wait. When it comes back install, hang on. It'll be like no other bike you've ridden if your new to this. I think you should just jump into a 4 mil. You can grow into your comfort zone. The pipes will keep it tame. When you want more you can get new pipes, carbs, reeds. Sent from my HTC6435LVW FMF FATTYS are a great pipe. I know for a fact they can push over 70HP. They also offer great low end torque. I run them on my all purpose Banshee and that bike is killer as a dune bike as well as a woods/trails machine. (But ditch the stock silencers. If all you have is head pipes……that's not a sleeper….that's a bike that looks like it was built on the cheap.) Porting will make you awesome gains. You can make 70+ HP with stock carbs too. (So don't get caught up in the bigger carb hype) Get some porting, a cool head with domes your builder likes, do a billet water pump, get some good silencers, do the "Pro Mod" tranny mods if your opening the bottom end and then add some V-Force 4 reeds. No one here will ever offer up cheap services or parts. And for good reason. Most people here have been around these bikes since they first came out. Listen to john up there. Your bike will be night and day with just porting. stock carbs, reeds, and even a stock head milled is just fine for starting out coming from stock. willaduncan Posted February 11, 2014 Report Share Posted February 11, 2014 a stock unwelded crank will have a hard time surviving a ported or aftermarket topend...it will come apart in time, possibly a very short time if it has had a few years use already Very true I will say from experience I had Kevin at HJR do my port work and left my stock unwelded crank and now maybe 40 hours ride later I am needing a new crank.... if you know how to spec out the stock crank you can tell if its still useable enough to weld and keep goin or if you need a new one... so from experience do the crank now specially if you aren't the original owner of the bike and have no idea how many hours that crank has... To answer your questions again porting alone will make it feel like a new bike no comparison to pipes its a whole new ride worth the money (I like HJR or F.A.S.T.) FMF pipes hit great on the bottom end so yes they are good pipes (Im not a fan of the silencers not mounting correctly at least on mine) but there are better pipes out there Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
camatv Posted February 12, 2014 Report Share Posted February 12, 2014 i ran fmf's on a drag ported motor with alky 38 lectrons, lockup, and override.. it was one of the funnest ride able bikes i have had on the sand.. they were fmf sst's and i center mounted the silencers.
