To Stroke or not

I am in the process of rebuilding my banshee.  The machinist had me pull the crank to check it and said I need to get it welded.  At this point would I be better off going with a stroker crank?  I ride mostly sand but I also need to use this quad on dirt when the whole family wants to go for a ride. I have stock suspension and swingarm.  I don't have buttloads of money to spend so I am trying to do this as efficiently as possible.

If you do not have lots of money to spend most likely just weld it and stay stock but depends on what your doing.  Are your jugs ported?  If yes, stay with the stock crank because you will either have to find new cylinders or port them again. Is your crank still good? If you just are welding  the crank is about $75.  If its bad and you have money to port and buy a crank go 4mil.  If you dont' have money to port, buy pistons, and domes buy a standard stroke crank.  Its not as simple as just throwing a 4mil crank in there.

IMO weld and true it by a reputable shop. If you go 4mil, might as well get it ported so you dont have to use spacers. Then you can tell yourself since you doing that, you might as well do a few other things to really make it more efficient. In the end, you spent way more than you wanted to. Plus you are stuck riding on crap stock suspension.

4 mil means money. So realistically you said your not dumping cash, so in my opinion weld that stocker up. A welded stocker will take abuse. You can even comfortably put all the bolt ons on it slowly and then down the road you would have most of the stuff for a stroked motor. If it's apart down to the cases, you might as well ask your machinist about working the trans over.

Very good point about bolt on's with stock stroke. Just about any mod you do can transition over to a 4 in most cases.

Just dont worry about being the fastest. That's when your wallet dies and a simple play/trail bike turns into a drag bike. And going in a strait line all the time with your only bike gets boring for some people.

What should be done with the trans?

if for a play bike and you will be backloading it often then a promod tranny is your best bet. makes shifting smooth and none of the fear of messing it up like an override.

You would be nuts to go through the trouble of starting over at the cases and not touch the tranny. Even doing the basic ear/dog cut, drum mod and the rest of the misc bolt ons.

When camron (redline) had his Christmas deal on the pro mod, I ripped my girlfriends bike apart just to do it. I have it on my bike, and every banshee I get will have it done. From bolt on to high hp trail bikes. If you don't need/want an over ride, this is what to get.
