2004LEBanshee
It is about 40 degrees and I decided to move my banshee to take a picture. So I turned the fuel on and tried to start it and it took forever. I also noticed It was leaking gas. Why? Then I let it warm for a few minutes and drove it up the street it bogged for a while like it always does untill it gets warm then it back fired a couple of times. I havent changed anything since the last time I rode and It rode fine. So whats up? Last week when I rode it was about 65. I only have no snorkle and a Unifilter. Jetting is 230. Hockey390
This probably isnt your problem because you have a 2004, but this is what happend to me. After removing the carbs one of the throttle cables came slightly undone and the wire on the inside caught so my left carb was wide open.. Back fired everytime I gave it gas. Just look into the carb and see if they are both down.
sand rocket
your running lean, cold temps is a cause for running lean, and stop trying to ride it cold or you could get a cold seize.
fixitrod
I ride mine in the cold every year. If it's back firing, you may be lean for your temps or your jet may be gunked up a little.

2004LEBanshee
so every time it goes from 45 to 30 or 15 her in the winter I have to change it. That sucks. It will change that much from morning to afternoon.

Banchetta
so every time it goes from 45 to 30 or 15 her in the winter I have to change it. That sucks. It will change that much from morning to afternoon. I'd go up 2 sizes and do a plug check after a wot run in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds...Running rich won't hurt the motor, but running lean will.. 2004LEBanshee
Dosen't 250 sound like a lot for a pretty much stock bike.

ZigZag Man
mine backfired once when I was kicking it over WHY??? but it never did when I was running instead of changing jets go to some premix with a higher fuel ratio I run golden spectro (52:1 is what it calls for but I run it at about 42:1 or a little higher) stock with no air lid 180 mains plugs are fine(when the temp drops alot I put the lid back on) If you want to use the stock air box and no lid just drill 2 holes in your filter holder flange(top side) and put some #6 or #8 machine screws through it and the airbox make sure you get a good seal and make sure the filter holder is down in the airbox so that the bottom is tight against the front wall of the box then if you want to still use the airbox lid (colder temps or long higher speed back road cruises) you may have to cut some flanges off of the bottom of the lid. I noticed the powerband hits a little harder and a slight increase in mid range power maybe just enough to blow away that pesky raptor wish I could find him again:angry:
fixitrod
You don't need to change the jetting that often. That would be if you were jetting exact at one point. Most people are jetted a little rich to compensate. But, a lot of people do not ride when it gets really cold. That's why most people don't mess with it. That's also why you hear "don't ride in the winter, it will blow the motor".
2004LEBanshee
If I dont ride in the winter in Ohio than I can't ride half the year. That will kill me. I am going today to get 250 like Banchetta said and try that for a while. The only problem is I live in the middle of town and I cannot get to sixth gear in my neighborhood because of lack of space. Also the police keep driveing by every time I try to ride it around.
