oldskool
you don't know if the cylinders are ported for the extra stroke. That's why the guys are telling you to send it to a builder. You can port cylinders for stock stroke, spacer plate, 4mill no plate, 5mil etc.
trickedcarbine
Ok, I am being nice when I say my next statement. Much of what you are saying is a hot mess. Especially the stock cyl/Athena cyl comparison. That's like saying cubs are like stock cyls, except have triple exhaust, aux. ports, nikasil and they are cast together as one jug. Other then that they are the same. ( bustin your balls by the way) But on to the set up. You are sure it's 5mm crank stroke not 5mm longer rod? It could be both but much of your info is conflicting. Also, the only way to know if you can run them with out a plate is to have a builder determine if it messes up the port geometry. As taking that spacer out lowers the cylinder. This usually requires additional port work as well as having the head/domes set up to match. With what your saying it seems that in your case you need a builder to take a look to advise you where to go with it. Not the local Yutz mechanic! No matter how many banshees they may do top ends on. m671054
Ive been reading this since day one and have been wondering does he mean stock stroke 5mil long rod? or 5mil stroke who knows what rod? we may never know. buy a degree wheel, some solder and read up you got lots to learn
trickedcarbine
Also, if you are dead set on letting your local mechanic do this for you, that means you trust him. Since he's such an expert on banshees why can't he answer your question? There is a huge difference between the guy that can bore your jugs and assemble the top end, and the guy that has a machine shop as well as oodles of mock up cases, gaskets, plates, and a degree wheel to inspect your current mess and sort it out properly be it with port work and new domes on correct height gaskets, or figuring out how to get it to run right with out changing it. If your Mechanic can't set up your domes or tell you whether or not to run that plate you are in the wrong spot. I ran my banshee for years with the local shop behind me and i thought it was boss as fuck. Then I finally sent it to a proven builder off HQ and holy Fuck! There is a huge difference. Just letting ya know.

I think we both know there probably isn't a twister in that motor with out someone knowing.
m671054
Twister was the only name that come to my mind as well. when odd strokes are brought up they are usually his cranks. not saying its not a stock stroked crank, its just not that popular any more. and who the fuck would spend good money on a twister crank then cheap out on the cylinders.
Zillaguy
It is probably a stock stroke long rod crank... No way there is a Twister crank in that motor.... I was thinking the same thing, that no one makes a 5mil stroker crank except for a custom build... And, it most likely does not have a high dollar crank, with cheapo cyls like Athena... Whoever he bought it from lied there ass off, to sell that bike..... It NEEDS to be sent to someone who knows how to build custom Banshee engines, not the local powersport guy.... The site sponsors deal with more Banshee engines in a week than the local guy will do in 5 years....

WINDYCITYJOHN400
Ive heard people call 4mm long rod 5mm cranks beforeTrinity use to tell people that longer rods = more cc's from the extra stroke. FFS
