Cleaning Chrome Pipes

Buckwheat

Recommended Posts

I need to clean and polish my pipes (R2's). They aren't rusted just have the usual oily / carbon buildup on them + a couple of places where they came in contact with the airbox and front fender plastic. What is the best way to clean that stuff off and polish them?

Thanks and Happy New Year!

I usually scrape real easy with a razor blade so I don't leave scratches to get the heavy chunks. Just don't use steel wool or some shit like all the rednecks will tell you. Will scratch the shit outa the chrome. Some carb cleaner or brake clean on white scotchbrite for the smaller amounts. Then some kinda polish.

I haven't had any problems with 0000 steel wool..

Didn't think of that. Only used it on some t6s which I'm assuming aren't show chrome.

Could be. Prob nickel plated. Which is a step short of actual chroming. I think. Still shiny if kept up, but its different. Thinner. Just not as glossy.

Best chrome cleaner I've found by far is alumabright aluminum cleaner strait from the jug undiluted. Shit will maze you how it will just rinse off baked on brake dust on chrome wheels. Don't get it near clear coated wheels or anything delicate as the high acid content will eat it. Can normally find it at Oreilly auto parts but may have to ask for it as my local store keeps it behind counters
