Buckwheat Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 I need to clean and polish my pipes (R2's). They aren't rusted just have the usual oily / carbon buildup on them + a couple of places where they came in contact with the airbox and front fender plastic. What is the best way to clean that stuff off and polish them? Thanks and Happy New Year! Quote

dave5.0 Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 I usually scrape real easy with a razor blade so I don't leave scratches to get the heavy chunks. Just don't use steel wool or some shit like all the rednecks will tell you. Will scratch the shit outa the chrome. Some carb cleaner or brake clean on white scotchbrite for the smaller amounts. Then some kinda polish. 2 Quote

dave5.0 Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 Steel wool will scratch if ya have good chrome. I've got show chrome pipes. If I even look at them with steel wool it's nasty. 1 Quote
Lowflyin Posted January 1, 2014 Report Posted January 1, 2014 (edited) Didn't think of that. Only used it on some t6s which I'm assuming aren't show chrome. Edited January 1, 2014 by Lowflyin 1 Quote

Which is a step short of actual chroming. I think. Still shiny if kept up, but its different. Thinner. Just not as glossy. Quote
Abe Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 Best chrome cleaner I've found by far is alumabright aluminum cleaner strait from the jug undiluted. Shit will maze you how it will just rinse off baked on brake dust on chrome wheels. Don't get it near clear coated wheels or anything delicate as the high acid content will eat it. Can normally find it at Oreilly auto parts but may have to ask for it as my local store keeps it behind counters 1 Quote
chevota84 Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 I like the turtle wax polish for finishing but it won't take off real heavy stuff. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 1 Quote
wfobasheeboy Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 I use 0000 steel wool with Mother chrome polish for the heavy stuff and just the mother chrome polish for every day cleaning. http://www.mothers.com/02_products/05208.html 1 Quote
trickedcarbine Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 Degreaser on the crud and grime, Master formula to kick the chrome to a sexy luster. Mothers and Meguires are are just names now. It's like they don't even try anymore and just keep sticking the same shit in new bottles. Quote
