Elozano
I got the bike brand new in 06 straight from the dealer.I had put about 100 hrs on it (if that) by the time i took it to glamis for the first time about three years ago. The only thing I've done to it is put on new pipes (cpi). I've been to Dumont with it and did just fine going up and down comp. all day, but last time I rode it in glamis right when I pulled baxk into camp afyer riding it started reving really high and the right side pipe started turning colors (from the heat) the rubber piece that keeps the silencer connected to the pipe caught in fire so somebody in the camp threw sand on it to put it out and it was done. I've messed with it a couple times I've cleaned the carbs (they had a lot of sand in them) I just put me jets in it but I can't get it to run right. it'll start first kick as long as I'm using starter fluid and it'll idle for a couple seconds before it starts revving really high. It also makes somewhat of a whistle noise every time the kick goes down.
Elozano
The whistle noise only comes from the right side, the side with the burnt pipe

sheerider11
The right side developed an air leak
uman1030
Sand in the carbs is deadly on an engine. whistle sound is most likely an air leak which causes a lean condition and also the high rev. Check the intakes for cracks/leaks especialy where the crossover tube goes in. Make sure there is no more sand anywhere it can travel into the engine. it will be on the side that heated the pipe up so hot obviously. Elozano
What would keep it from not firing up without starter fluid?
wayne_smith97
Do a compression test and see if both cylinders are within a few pounds of each other. If the right side is drastically different. Don't worry about anything else time to rebuild. If that checks out ok then so a leak down. Someone posted a good thread about how to build one. So if the comp test is ok. Then do the leak down test to find your air leak

Elozano
Ok i'll do that and look up the thread, thank you guys.
Elozano
So I checked the compression, the left side got up to 95 psi and the right side only got up to 60. I pulled the heads and the pistons are toast; the left piston is black so I'm assuming there's a crack in the head and its burning coolant. Aside from the damage there, should I pull any thing else apart to make sure it's not damaged to? Or will all the damage most likely be in the top end? mhoksch
Since you're going to tearing the top end off already, it never hurts to split the cases and look everything over Sent from my XT901 using Tapatalk now Free
wayne_smith97
The left piston being black is probably just Carbon build up. I would go ahead and split the cases and do all the bearings and true and weld the crank. If you plan on any power mods ever then go ahead and get the trans modded. With a tried and welded crank and trans mod you can build the shit out of it with no worries on what shape the bottom end is in
Elozano
I was going to put some pictures of the pistons but I can't figure out how to post pictures Edited December 14, 2013 by Elozano
Elozano
Are there any threads showing how to do that?
wayne_smith97
Call a builder any of the reputable site sponsors and talk with them. First buy a clymers manual. It's worth it's weight in gold.
