Front vs. Back brakes

Recommended Posts

Rear brakes are for wheelies...and if youve ever come down a 500 foot coal pile you will want that brake there!

Whenever i try to use the rear brakes on a loose soil downhill the rear just locks up and goes crazy,i just use compression braking.

The only time i use back brakes on downhills is when i have to almost stop.

The only other 2 times i have found them useful is on emergency stops, and then when trying to loosen the axle nut lol!

Indeed!

Holy shit, your coal hills are 500ft tall?

Sand Mountain, NV has a 500ft elevation change, and that hill is pretty fuggin big.

Am i the only one who could almost do away with back brakes on my banshee and not notice?

They cause more trouble than help.

I find that I only use the rear brakes when dropping in on steep hills to leep the bike in line, or when staging at the dragstrip. Other than that I have almost no need for them. Years of riding BMX/FREESTYLE just trained me to grab the levers to stop. In a panic stop, I end up grabbing all front and clutch. The rear is an afterthought that only joins the party at the very end. LOL

hmmm. I wonder why i never saw or met you? We ride religiously at the burn, mile hill, and all of the other areas around. My buddies and i cut just about every hill in over at the burn and windy. The burn is about 4-500ft long. Mile hill is 800ft or so...The last one we cut in on windy point was 1100ft long. I cant remember the exact footage of all the hills, id have to check to be certain. We have a buddy thats an engineer and uses some type of software to figure out all the ft and elevations of the hills we cut in and ride on.
