Hi all! I couldnt find a introduction sub-forum for a proper introduction, but Im saying hi from southeast OH!

I'm looking at purchasing my first banshee, it is a 1998 350 that needs a top end rebuild for $800

It has the normal aftermarkets.....dg bumper, nerf bars, handlebars, itp holeshots, grab bar, plastics are cut (booooo), full hmf gold series dual exhaust, piggy back front shocks, fmf boost bottle, and a couple things im sure im forgetting.

The guy is not sure if its the stock cylinder or if its bored....but i was going to do a completely brand new top end from cylinder to piston.

Any advice on my purchase? anything to look for? is this a fairly decent deal?

and any advice on the rebuild? I want to go as wicked as possible wihtout having to touch the bottom end, I think the bottom end might be beyond my abilities, unless i really wanted to take my time with forums and youtube instructions, but for now i think thats beyond my reach until i get a little more comfortable with it.

THANKS !

Welcome to BHQ. For $800, you did good. If you put a fresh topend on a motor with a questionable bottomend, it's likely to blow and destroy your fresh topend, cases, etc. Time to split the cases, check everything, put in new seals, and get the crank checked by a site sponsor. Buy a Clymer manual and also do lots of reading on BHQ. Here is the bottom end thread. Read through it and look at the pics so you have some idea of what's inside.

im back and forth between this 98 that i listed and an 01 that needs a new bottome end for$900

I was leaning towards the 98 so i didnt have to get into the bottom end, but it looks as if im going to anyways, so should i spend the extra $100 and get the 2001? it has a dyno 2 into 1 exhaust, XFR nerf bars, new maxis rzr tires... and its 10 minutes from me

As long as you get '91 or newer, year doesn't matter. In most cases older bikes have been thrashed more, but that's not always the case.

There are better pipes out there than the FMFs, but ALL pipes are better than the Dynoport 2 into 1. Your choice from there, but if you buy the '01, ditch the dynoport pipe.

I'd prob get the one with the FMF pipes. Unless you can look at both and the top end is ok in the one with the dyno port. But I doubt it. Buy them both. Put the good parts together, make one running bike if possible. Then part the rest. Prob could make money for parts needed or trade parts you have for ones you need.
