killer454 Posted November 4, 2013 Report Share Posted November 4, 2013 went to check the crankshaft side to side bigend of rod in a 99 the banshee manual says inch .01-.03 mm .25-.75 here is what I read off my feeler gage im 45 years old and im confused on the readings. left rod bigend side clearand snug.020" .508mm right .018" .457mm is my crankshaft good? thanks for the help just want to make sure I rebuild everything I need to Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Starwriter Posted November 4, 2013 Report Share Posted November 4, 2013 Actually, Clymer says .0098" to .0295", but anyway, close enough. .020" and.018" are both in between the allowable range, so that part of the crank is good. KaN Powersports Posted November 5, 2013 Report Share Posted November 5, 2013 Welding is a very good idea, however, I wouldn't bother welding a used crank at it's service (or close to..) limit. Get it overhauled, or replace it and then have it trued and welded. If you have it out, and it is close-might as well do it as preventative. Be a bummer to go this far, put it back, then have a failure a short time afterward..
