banshee1983 Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 (edited) Hey guys im new to these forums and banshees all together. I just picked up a 1987 banshee as a project as ive never had one of these before and it was all in boxes when i got it. I have almost everything to put it together so i want to do it as a project even if it takes me yrs. So far i have painted the frame and j arms and put the front end together. Still waiting for the guy i got it from to get me the rear end parts so it can start to be a roller, i have most of the engine.. I need cylinders and the motor has to be rebuilt. Thats where my first question comes in. What way should i go with the engine rebuild? Should i go all out and do a stroker kit or should i just do a stock rebuild? Im looking for the most reliability but still trying to get some good power out of it. Can anyone suggest what i should do for the motor? This is what i have done so far Edited October 25, 2013 by banshee1983 Quote
n2otoofast4u Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 If you have to buy a crank its not much more to go 4mil. If it were me Id get yourself hooked up with a ported stock cyld setup. Quote
banshee1983 Posted October 25, 2013 Author Report Posted October 25, 2013 I have the crank. 2 actually but from whAt i was told it needs crank bearings. I want to do it right though. How much would it be to do the 4mil? Do i have to get special top end to do this? Quote
bluebanshee98 Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 What's your budget and what do you plan to do with the bike? Quote
banshee1983 Posted October 25, 2013 Author Report Posted October 25, 2013 Pretty flexible on the budget as i plan to make this a long term project. Reasonable price i guess. I guess when all said and done probably 1000-1500 on just the motor if i can get away with that. I dont reallly have any specific plans for the bike. Just good low to mid range power. All around use for around my land and some country riding. I dont race just play . Quote
Surfrjag Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 4mil is a good option, if yours needs crank bearing who knows how much longer the rod bearings are going to last. Things you should need are 4 mil crank domes and coolhead Stroker pistons pancake bearing Oil seals Gaskets Adjustable timing plate porting for the 4mil Good clutch Right pipes What pipes have you got? I like pro circuits for your style of build You will be fine with stock carbs but its nice to get rid of the tors. Quote
BANSHEE CHAOS Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 Get DMC 916's if at all possible. 1 Quote

But.....that is if your being a real thrifty buyer and waiting for the right deal. Just remember though....when buying a 4mil set of jugs.......you can run a 4mil crank with stock cylinders (obviously you need a different head to clear the extra stroke length)....however it will not run great. It will be like putting a v-8 into a geo metro and then pulling 4 spark plugs and driving it. So.....if you get a 4 mil crank......try and find either a set of pre-ported cylinders, or get a nice set of stock cylinders and have them ported. Quote

This site is awesome Quote
bluebanshee98 Posted October 25, 2013 Report Posted October 25, 2013 FYI your budget of 1500 will prob turn into 25-3000. Do it right the first time. Use the site sponsors Quote

Yeah i wanna do it right the first time. Its gonna be a long project either way. Im being patient and writing everything down. Once i get the roller all built i will concentrate on the engine. I want it to be sick. Quote

Call a couple sponsors on here, figure out who you want to use and buy from them. Better prices than ebay and they have a phone to call when you have questions. Quote
