Budweiserallday
Gonna take appart my bottom end tonight and was wondering if I should take my pistons off ? The clymer Manual says to flip the motor over on your work bench to take the bolts off on the bottom of the motor and I was wondering if the weight of the motor would hurt them or should I just put the pistons at the same height and let the weight sit on the head studs ( first time taking a banshee apart just don't want to fuck it up) thanks
Starwriter
What are you actually going to work on/replace? Do NOT just set the motor on the pistons. If you're pulling the crank, the pistons have to be removed anyway. If you're rebuilding the top end, the pistons have to come off. If you're only working on the trans, you shouldn't have removed the cylinders.

Thanks for replying , I'm putting in a right side crank seal and checking the bottom end for anything worn , the guy I bought this bike from didn't put a crank seal in the right side . So I should just pull them off anyway ? Or can I wait till I pull the crank ?

sheerider11
If he put a crank seal in wrong, I'd check everything else too
Budweiserallday
If he put a crank seal in wrong, I'd check everything else too That's exactly what I'm doing , idk how you forget to put a crank seal in .. But everything internal is new or rebuilt so I figure it would be worth going through and making sure everything's aight
Starwriter
Pull the pistons off so you can remove the crank completely from the cases for inspection. That will also make reassembly much easier. You're supposed to replace the wrist pin circlips with new ones any time you remove them. Some people probably reuse the old ones, but I never take chances. Put the split of the circlip either up or down. Never put it at 3:00 or 6:00. Mark the pistons so they go back in the same bores. When you have the crank out, check to make sure that the crank pins are welded. If they're not, send the crank to a builder to be trued and welded. If the previous owner is that much of a moron, I would replace the left side seal too. Who knows if he nicked the seal surface or something. Read this thread. It will help you a bunch. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=140912

Budweiserallday
Took my pistons off last night .. And they have never been run , does it matter witch one goes in witch bore?
Starwriter
It really doesn't matter, since they've never been ran. I made a mistake on the previous post. I meant never put the circlip split at 3:00 or 9:00. Always put it at 12:00 or 6:00.

dave5.0
Took my pistons off last night .. And they have never been run , does it matter witch one goes in witch bore? Have the cylinders been bored? Did they get honed to the piston size? If so it'll make a difference. I think a previous post said to make sure not to mix up pistons per side.
