wayne_smith97
I have seen the no fire topic on here but i have some questions. I unhooked the Tors and then jumped the keyswitch and still no fire. I know you can test the coil with a multi-meter, but i don't know how to do that. I also pulled the flywheel cover and it was rusted up pretty bad so i commenced to sanding it off with emery cloth. Got the two little magnets clean and also sanded the pick-up and still nothing. I drove into my shop a month or two ago and now this is where i am at. Can someone fill in the blanks for me??????
nightmarebanshee
only been sitting for a month? should start if it ran when you put it away...check the kill switch.
wayne_smith97
Only a month! I will say it looked like in the flywheel and stator area that it was in water with mud and rust. I dont think its that because it has to have been like that the whole time i have had it. I have rode it many times. Can i just open the kill switch up and wire the wires together or will i need to seperate them??
wayne_smith97
Ok I tried by passing the kill switch by pretty much removing it. So i went on to remove the flywheel and take a look inside and the stator was rusted up pretty bad so i started to unbolt it and the pickup and broke the damn leg that the pickup is bolted too. Anyone know where i can this and a stator while i am at it? Also will someone tell me how to use a multi-meter to test the coil. Sorry to sound dumb but i just don't know how to test coil packs. I am good with points ignitions though. OLD SCHOOL but only 26!!!
Starwriter
Start here. http://bansheehq.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=133650 If you don't know how to use a multimeter, google search How to use a multimeter. As far as the broken timing plate, sounds like a perfect excuse to buy an adjustable timing plate. I wouldn't replace the stator just because it's rusty. If it fails resistance test, then replace it. Just so you know, for it to run, the key switch must be closed circuit(connected to black ground wire) and the kill switch must be open. wayne_smith97
Will an adjustable timing plate make that much difference? I was told by previous owner that it was bored .010 and there is a K&N filter in the air box. Could someone give me an idea for jetting (west tn)
wayne_smith97
A little help here
03DMshee
Your gonna have to list some variables....things like temp you ride in elevation you ride at and some specifics of the motor...or you can search the jetting template in jetting forum...seriously though unless you have some wild and crazy 1 of a kind problem theres nothing that you cant find on here by using the search button...sometimes I have better results by searching question in google and adding banshee hq to the end...hope that helps
wayne_smith97
Generally about 70-100 degrees im not real sure but not far above sea level. my main concern though is about my fire at the moment. i will worry about jetting when its running again. wayne_smith97
Looked it up it ranges from 300-500 ft above sea level
Starwriter
What have you tested so far and what were the results?
wayne_smith97
Well i tested the kill switch and ignition switch. Both are good so i pulled flywheel just to look around and its wall full of rusty much which actually wiped off easily with my finger. Im waiting on fuses to come in the mail for my multimeter to test the coil cdi(not sure how to test it) and stator. i also tried unhooking the plug for the tors. Any suggestions??? Starwriter
There are 4 plugs for the TORS. The only one you need to unplug is the black box with a 3 wire plug under the left front of the tank. Did you go to that link I posted? That has everything you need to know to diagnose it. It's not possible to test the CDI. If everything else passes tests, substitute a known good CDI. Common problems are stator windings, pickup coil gap, coil wire boots, bad ground connection where the black wires join together inside the harness, and melted wires on the right exhaust stinger. wayne_smith97
I did look at the link and thats where i finally figured out how to test stator and coil with ohm meter. thanks for that link. lot of good info. i did unplug the three wire tors plug under the tank. I will look at the right stinger and check for melted wires. where is this connection of the two black wires at in the harness? I will check it out too.
