inframes with stingers no silencers

Recommended Posts

So I'm building a drag bike and want to know if shearer inframes or any inframe drag pipe will make the same power as there oof counter parts if you ran the inframes with just longer stingers? Like Tyler's bikes are, I imagine he runs his that way for hill climbs but I've seen some local guys run there bikes that way at the track and was curious as to how they compare to oof pipes. It's not a must for me to run that way I'm just curious and I think its nice looking.

Shape, size and length.

So sb/sf oof head pipes are a different shape than there inframe head pipes? I figured the main difference would be the bend coming off the head. And I would think as far as how loud it was it would be the same as unsilenced oofs. And tuned length I imagine makes a difference but replacing the inframe stinger/silencer combo with a same length straight stinger might be close to the same as a oof stinger section.

It really depends on the engine set up. For example on my personal 4 mm cub inframe vs drag is almost 10 hp difference but on my 350 inframes are 3 pk hp better and also have 500 rpm more usable power. So there really isn't a direct answer. I will tell you that both pipes are completely different and require very different engine setups. I could give you some advice if you want to tell me your setup or you could call me..

Is it more or less trial and error as far as inframes having a better curve or do most inframes have a better curve. And also since you have a pretty big motor the difference in hp will be bigger correct. And also who or what did you use to make the inframe straight stingers? Also is there even any power difference between the inframes with stingers and silencers vs the inframes with straight through stingers no silencer?

Tyler im also curious on this note with that 20mm DM he is also running straight stingers on it is that something Cam recommends on the bigger motor hill climb bikes?

It all started when Cam built our first 18DMs. We were the first to put that big of a motor in a hillclimb bike. We knew we needed an out-frame style pipe, just in an in-frame version. Cam shot me the idea and I went with it. I changed my flange and brought the stinger out to a certain length and it worked. Now all of the ones he builds for hill climbers are set up that way.
