charlie__walsh
I'm lookin for a good setup , I'm thinking of a bigger bore but not to much... Is it worth it or just keep stock...? sheerider11
Are you looking for more power? Or just freshen up a tired motor? And I'm all for powder coat. A little expensive but the strength is worth it.
oldskool
Do a compression test to see if you need a top end rebuild. If you do need one, only bore what you need to get the cylinders cleaned up. This will save the cylinders for future bores. A adjustable timing plate set at +4 is a common mod with noticeable change in performance. (45.00) If you need cylinders bored and can afford porting, this will be one of the biggest gains you can get for the money, but you will also want some different pipes. The list keeps going, just depends how fast you can afford to go
satts
Yeah powdercoat is way to go ,pretty cheap to ,call your local powdercoat place and get a quote usually charge hourly ,shouldn't be any more than $
Jereme6655
boring a 2 stroke does NOT get you power. The reason you need to rebuild a 2 stroke is due to the amount of wear compared to a 4stroke on the piston/cylinder.
charlie__walsh
thanks guys great info... exspecially about the boreing.. but how do you up ure cc's I thought it was boring... and iver herd about a single carb setup? is it useless? sstaton1983
Keep the stock carbs. You can up the cc's by lengthining the stroke of the crank and also by using a big bore cylinder. Boring your stock sleeve will never up the cc's enough to make a diff.
trickedcarbine
^pretty true to an extent.
RagunCajun
as said porting your stock cylinder is the best bang for the buck. Once you start making some serious hp, you may have issues with the clutch holding and/or the trans shifting. I highly doubt youll achieve that with your average play port on stock cylinders though. For a durable finish on a frame, powder coat it. I painted mine and it held up decent but never again. I went talk to my local powder coater sunday to decide on colors for my build i started Edited October 10, 2013 by RagunCajun
Jereme6655
more cc's don't mean that you get more power out of the motor.......with 4 strokes yes......with 2 strokes......especially these motors, just by having port work done, these things will turn into entirely different beasts. charlie__walsh
Finally some people that no what there talking about ... I'm starting my rebuild soon and I wanna have everythin before I start.. I don't want to fancy ... But if I do the polish is there anything else I need to do... RagunCajun
You dont polish the heads like on 4 stroke engines. People polish stuff on banshees because they like shiney shiney blingy bling.
charlie__walsh
Sorry must watch my words ... I meant port n polish...
RagunCajun
check the crank for excessive play, maybe get it trued and welded. Maybe hone the cylinders if needed. You can do other basic maintenance while it's down. The the price of a crank, engine seal kit and cooling head(or spacer plate) you can do a 4mil stroker set up. The sky is the limit though. I think a port job will be all you need for now.
Jereme6655
With a port job you will also wind up with lower compression (as to make the power through port work you must lower the intake and exhaust ports) which will need to be compensated for. There are a few choices......you can go with a stock head and have it milled to increase the compression, or the better idea is to buy a cool head, which allows you to interchange different cc heads for more compression. The port job is the best bang for the buck......HOWEVER.....its not going to really work correctly unless you already have the normal bolt on beginning stuff such as pipes, filters, timing plate............don't get me wrong, it'll work without those.....however it will work FAR better with those mods.....
