ceedubb200
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum but thankfully stumbled across this site, heard it's great for advice and what not. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible while still explaining the issue I'm having. I recently had the rare opportunity to purchase a new (yes, new as in it was never outside of a garage) 2006 Yamaha Banshee from my neighbor for $1K. He just wanted to get rid of it, seems to good to be true but that's the story. So, being myself and always tinkering and improving things, I went to work on it. First thing I did was take it to a local certified shop to make sure the bike ran, after all fluids were changed and the carbs lightly cleaned, the bike fired right up, no issues. That was at the beginning of summer, and please bear in mind I've never owned a Banshee or a two-stroke before. I started researching all the mods and fun stuff you can do to a Banshee, and before I knew it, I had a garage full of brand new parts, ready to be installed. Here's a short list (long list, actually) of everything that is currently on the bike and then I'll get to the issue I'm having (ignore the prices next to the parts, they were itemized for alternate purposes): New OEM Yamaha Banshee Plastics in Yamaha Black including Rear Fender, Front Fender, Radiator Cover and Fuel Side Covers - ($560) New OEM Yamaha Banshee Seat in Yamaha Black - ($170) New Front + Rear Oversized 6 Ply Holeshot "HD" Tires - ($500) New Toomey T5 Pipes + Silencers in Chrome Finish - ($500) New Toomey T5 Perfect Jetting Kit - ($65) New Toomey Billet Aluminum Exhaust Clamps ($62.99) New ProDesign Pro-Flow Air Filter Kit w/K&N Air Filter ($129.95) New ProDesign Billet Aluminum Stator/Adjustable Timing Plate ($90) New ProDesign Billet Aluminum EZ Drain Water Pump Plate + New OEM Clutch Gasket ($56) New ProDesign Billet Aluminum Water Pump Impeller + New OEM Water Pump Gear ($90) New Fluidyne FPS-11 Oversized Billet Aluminum Oversized Radiator + Alpha 1.6K (23lb) High Pressure Radiator Cap Black ($420) New Modquad Black Billet Aluminum Banshee Logo Gas Cap w/Modquad Short Air Release Valve ($68) New Modquad Stainless Steel Rear Brake Oil Reservoir + Master Cylinder Cap ($70) New Modquad Stainless Steel Kick Starter in Black ($119) New Modquad Key Relocation Bracket ($13) New TrailTech Vapor Engine Meter + Odometer ($40) New Renthall 1 1/8" Fatbar Handlebars w/Adaptor Clamps in Black w/Renthal Waffle Grips ($130) New ASV C5 Pro Clutch and Brake Levers with Dust Covers in black ($225) New Alba Racing Parking Brake Eliminator Block Off Plate in Black ($13) New PIAA Super White Headlamp Bulbs ($60) New Alba Pro Elite Front Bumper in Black ($89) New Alba Racing Rear Grab Bar in Black ($59) New DG Racing Pro Nerf Bars in Black ($225) New Pro Armor Aluminum Skid Plate + Swing Arm Skid Plate in Powder Coated Black ($250) New ShockPro Front and Rear Shock Covers in Black ($65) All Premium Fluids including 100% non-ethanol fuel mixed with Yamaha 2R Lube, Redline Super Coolant, Synthetic Transmission Fluid So, after finally getting all of the above installed on the bike, I'm still having issues with the what sounds like the right carburetor. The bike doesn't want to idle and has issues in the lower power bands, it's almost impossible to get out of first without it choking and dying. Keep in mind these carbs have been cleaned twice, jetted professionally (twice), and they're brand new! What on earth could be the deal?? I just don't get it. I thought this bike would run like a gem since it tested with 100% compression and the guys at Power Yamaha here in Oregon said it was like a "time capsule" and offered me $4K for it on the spot (probably should have taken that offer), but I wanted to build it up and have fun with it, not just flip it. And all of the above has been installed professionally, no corners have been cut. The bike will start on the first kick still, it just won't idle and one of the carbs sounds like it's drowning in fuel. I've had all the regular stuff checked, i.e., air/fuel mixture adjusted, floats adjusted, etc.) and am still stumped. Very last resort before I give up on it is to buy a brand new OEM carburetor for it, but I really don't want to as it has brand new carbs, not to mention the cost. Can any of you please help??? I would really like to get this thing up and in perfect running order, if there is such a thing with a Banshee Thanks in advance, will be checking replies regularly and responding. I can post pictures too, just have to figure out how to resize them first. Chris Edited September 29, 2013 by ceedubb200

dave5.0
That dealer you're talking about is only around 35miles from me I think. Bring that junk over.
ceedubb200
@ Dave 5.0 - I actually just emailed with Power Yamaha in Sublimity, Oregon, and they agreed to take another look free of charge (I do NOT want to spend anymore money trying to get this bike running properly, have already spent a considerable amount), but that being said, where do you live and do you have the means to tune these bikes in your garage? I know it's likely one simple, overlooked thing as this bike is seriously factory new, but nobody can seem to figure it out, not sure why. Happy to post pics but how do I resize to do so? Do I have to use an external hosting service? None of mine would upload when I tried. The bike is a work of beauty though
ceedubb200
@ Wycked68 - I agree, it's just that both times they were taken off and cleaned, no issue was found. What else could it be? I'll try to post pics asap, but when you see the condition of this bike you'll know what I'm talking about, it's showroom new and has no hours on it. Here's a link to some pics on an alternate website I posted earlier in search of advice as well : http://forums.atvconnection.com/album.php?albumid=12260
dave5.0
I live in Metro Hubbard. You can tune one if these turds in your living room. Ask Finchy. The problem is having a place to run it afterwards. But if it won't idle and stuff that could definetly be done in my shop. I know absolutely nothing about that dealership. But if they are like most of them they deal mainly with stock equipment. So it's possibly they've missed something. Some of the guys on here eat, breath, sleep, and spank it in the shower to these things. So they can fix them in the dark. But I can't, I'm just a moron on an Internet forum. Which is what the dealership guys will prob tell you to watch out for.
hoppedupandcutdown
I'd put new needles and seats in the carbs. Like new or not, they have been sitting for 7 years.
rjdgriff
Choke tube between carbs hooked up? he is not referring to the choke itself, he is talking about the little black hose that connects between the two carbs (in case you misunderstood)
m671054
Also make sure the slides are in correctly and are in the correct carb. you should be able to tell by the sight glass if they are correct. use photo bucket for pics
Juss11
Should put the tors delete kit on it. Nice bike!
trickedcarbine
Tors and parking break delete. Also, it's original parts that have allegedly sat since 2006. That's a recipe for dry brittle seals. Do a proper leak down on it and be sure to also take the rad cap off when doing it.
