trickedcarbine
Just picked up a pretty nice set of Shearer inframes from another member here and wanna make sure they are as fresh as possible before bolting them on. What kind of packing comes in these things stock? Just trying to get it ordered so it is here and ready when I have time to open them up. trickedcarbine
Ok, figured it would be fiberglass wrap style instead of the steel wool type stuff.

Hazzard Racing Customs
ive used this before and it works great on any pipes
Tech AS
Yeah the pink panther stuff works pretty good. It seems to blow out just a tad quicker than actual pipe packing but is super cheap. The 5 dollar rolls do about 4 repacks on my fmf powercore 2's. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Owens-Corning-EcoTouch-Unfaced-2-in-x-16-in-x-48-in-R-6-7-Multi-Purpose-Continuous-Roll-Insulation-A85P/100320315?N=bay7 Edit: I should clarify that by 4 repacks i mean one roll will repack 4 silencers, not that i can repack 2 silencers 4 times. dave5.0
What about the Bondo fiberglass cloth? Could the core be wrapped with that stuff? Would it last or be any better?
Hazzard Racing Customs
Hhmmmm good idea I just use the insulation when needed can't go wrong does burn up a bit quicker but I hardly have a set of pipes more then a year so idk lol
dave5.0
Ya I've not used it yet. Had it for a while. Just saw some toomey packing and it looked similar. Lil bit fluffier than the stuff I have but pretty close still. Might give it a whirl.
sleeper06
Shearer uses John mans vile home insulation he also ships all his pipes packed in it brand new
trickedcarbine
Tried the fire rated insulation. It's like steel wool and cotton blend. Sounded great. Note not talking about mineral wool. Although I think that stuff is probably nice too.
dave5.0
Took a set of toomys apart today. They had a heavy fiberglass type of sheathing/tubing packed down in them in a corkscrew pattern around the tube. This stuff was way heavier than the typical packing. Looked like it could be used as heat shielding over stingers or something. Where's this stuff come from?
