Hi

Can someone please explain to me in SIMPLE idiot proof terms wtf jetting is, I have read some threads and I am like WTF!

All I know is, I kick start my bike and I ride it, I have no idea what jetting is all about, I even see some of you talking about sea level!

Please explain to me why I should do this, what I can benefit from doing this, how easy or difficult it is to do this and what I need to do this.

Thanks very much.

Mark.

i know if you check out ebay you can buy a complete book on jetting.jk some one else can explain this bettter than me but i am gonna try and make it short and simple for ya.

jettings is the regulation of fuel and air mix goin into your engine by these lil brass hex hed threaded parts with holes in them. they are inside your carbs. and it would be very important that you do jet your bike because one you may be loosing performance 2 you may blow your engine. some one else is gonna have to put this in better words for ya but thats a some what general idea.

Wow, this isn't easy. Ok nastybuddy is on it..Yes you do already have "jets" in the carbs, they are set up for the stock exhaust and intake. When you change the air flow to the motor, you have to increase the amount of fuel also, by changing the "jets". If your have more air and not enough fuel "lean" then you can make the motor run hot and melt a piston. YOu 'll also have a performance lost. If you run too much fuel to the amount of air, "rich" then it'll bog or sputter and not hardly run at all. So yes, jetting is very important and makes HUGE gains in performance. There are 3 ways to adjust the carbs, Pilot jets, needle height, and Main jets. Each control different throttle openings and work together. Jetting a carb is an art. Learning takes experience and good feel....Read a lot and learn.....BTW, sea level means that your at the same height as the ocean......As you get higher above the ocean "like mountains" the thinner the air gets, so you don't require as much fuel. So elevation or height above sea level affects jetting. Hope that helps....
